Description
Saegusa Izumi, youngest daughter of Japan's Ten Master Clan Saegusa family, shares an identical twin sister, Kasumi, and holds favored status with her father Kouichi. Academically distinguished, she placed second in First High School's entrance exams. After witnessing Shiba Miyuki's performance at the Nine Schools Competition, Izumi idolized her as the quintessential "Yamato Nadeshiko," joining the student council to work alongside Miyuki and requesting permission to address her as "Onee-sama."

Izumi maintains a reserved, polite exterior, habitually masking her thoughts behind an unreadable smile—a contrast to Kasumi's expressiveness. She employs formal speech, referring to herself as "watakushi." Despite her composed demeanor, she fiercely protects her elder sister Mayumi, collaborating with Kasumi to intimidate or threaten potential suitors like Hattori Hanzou.

Her magical prowess peaks when synchronized with Kasumi. Their twin "Resonance" stimulates each other's Magic Calculation Areas, enabling "Multiplicative Magic" that amplifies their combined power beyond additive effects. This synergy executes advanced spells like oxygen-depleting "Suffocating Turbulence" and ignition-causing "Heated Turbulence." Inspired by Miyuki, Izumi independently developed freezing magic "Cold Storm." Paired with Kasumi, she surpasses Mayumi in magic sequence discernment and excels in interference strength.

Izumi's relationships undergo significant evolution. Initially wary of Shiba Tatsuya as a threat to Mayumi, she develops deep respect after recognizing his magical skill and consideration for others, including Kasumi. By Volume 17, she discusses Tatsuya's "Stellar Furnace" and "Phonon Maser" with near-reverence, acknowledging him as incomprehensible. She opposes her father's scheme to pair Tatsuya with Mayumi, fearing it would paint Mayumi as a "shameless seductress" and wound Miyuki, yet privately considers Tatsuya a suitable match for Miyuki while lamenting her own inability to "court" him.

A rivalry with Kuroba Ayako ignites when Ayako defeats Izumi using Mock Teleportation in the Nine Schools Competition's Mirage Bat—a technique suggesting Yotsuba Clan ties. Their competition persists into university. Post-graduation, Izumi enrolls at Magic University where she and Kasumi gradually pursue independent paths, taking separate classes and spending less time together. She later applies to Tatsuya's Magian Company, her motivations undisclosed.
