Description
Karen Kohiruimaki is a university student whose 183-centimeter height fueled significant social anxiety, leading to an introverted life centered on reading and music. This height complex stemmed from childhood teasing in Hokkaido, where she was the youngest of five in a family originally from Aomori. Moving to Tokyo for university, she discovered virtual reality games via an article. Guided by her friend Miyu, she tried ALfheim Online, but distress over her tall Sylph avatar forced an immediate logout. Utilizing The Seed's conversion system, she tested games until finding Gun Gale Online (GGO), which offered an avatar under 150 centimeters tall, satisfying her wish for a petite, cute appearance.
In GGO, she plays as "LLENN," earning the moniker "Pink Devil" due to all-pink equipment and lethal PvP skills. Her slender avatar sports short tawny hair in a boyish cut, consistently outfitted in pink-dyed gear: cargo pants, a long-sleeved shirt, thigh pouches, high-laced boots, and a knit cap. Her primary weapon is a customized pink P90 submachine gun, affectionately named "P-chan," replaced multiple times after destructions in Squad Jams. Secondary weapons include knives ("Kni-chan") and an early optical gun. Her combat style capitalizes on high agility for rapid close-quarters attacks, often leveraging environmental camouflage for ambushes. Initially avoiding players to focus on monster hunting, she became addicted to ambushing players after realizing her pink gear provided tactical concealment, reverting to monsters only after player backlash.
Competitive play began when acquaintance Pitohui recruited her for the first Squad Jam (SJ1), forming the two-member team "LM" with M. LLENN served as leader and destroyed her first P90. For SJ2, she invited Miyu (playing as "Fukaziroh") to form team "LF," confronting rivals like SHINC. Post-SJ2, she met SHINC members—rhythmic gymnasts from her university's affiliated high school—in real life, gradually building friendships and eventually hosting them to review footage, accepting praise for her tactics and signaling growing social confidence.
In SJ3, she joined the four-member "LPFM" with Pitohui, M, and Fukaziroh. Key moments included a ship confrontation where she narrowly defeated Pitohui in a rematch after M survived a SHINC assault. Later, LPFM participated in a PvE event, collaborating against AI ex-soldiers using human tactics. Captured during this mission, LLENN resorted to suicide to avoid execution, witnessing the AI squad's reluctance to kill—revealing their therapeutic purpose. For SJ4, LPFM expanded to six members, including Clarence and Shirley, aiming to prevent an in-game engagement; LLENN utilized a handgun alongside her signature weapons.
Her character arc emphasizes growing camaraderie and purpose. Initially motivated by avatar customization, her continued GGO involvement stemmed from friendships with Pitohui, SHINC, and others, plus team commitments. Discussions with Miyu post-SJ3 highlighted her evolved perspective: GGO represented enjoyment and relational fulfillment, not escapism. This was reinforced during the therapeutic event, where she affirmed the game's value as "fun," separating virtual combat from real-world morality. Her journey reflects a transition from isolation to community engagement in-game and reality, without conflating virtual violence with real-life behavior.
