Description
Clen is the humanoid disguise of Clevatess, the Beast King of the South, adopted after his retaliatory destruction of the kingdom of Haiden. As one of the four immortal Beast Kings, Clevatess historically lived in isolationist seclusion within the southern badlands, indifferent to humanity until the kingdom dispatched thirteen heroes to slay him. His true form manifests as a colossal shadowy wolf featuring multiple prehensile barbed tails capable of puncturing steel armor. He wields shadow manipulation for teleportation and consumption, and commands necromancy by infusing his blood into corpses. The unprovoked attack provoked him to annihilate both the heroes and Haiden's capital. Amidst the ruins, he discovered the infant royal heir Luna and spared her life at the dying request of her caretaker.

To travel inconspicuously with Luna and the resurrected hero Alicia – whom he enslaved to care for the infant and provide insights into humanity – Clevatess assumed the form of a young human boy. This guise, named Clen, was modeled after a deceased child who had tried to protect Luna. The transformation conceals his true power and stature, though his central horn remains partially visible. In this form, his abilities are significantly weakened, and his shadow harbors his true beast form. His initial motivation for raising Luna was an experiment to evaluate whether humanity merited extinction or mercy, using the child's development as a metric.

Over time, Clen develops an attachment to Luna, shifting from pragmatic caretaker to protective guardian. He frequently admonishes the enslaved Alicia for perceived lapses in Luna's care, reflecting this paternal shift. His dynamic with Alicia remains tense due to her enslavement and repeated deaths, yet he relies on her for childcare and combat support. During their travels, they encounter Nell, an abused slave serving as Luna's wet nurse. After Nell suffers fatal injuries, Clen resurrects her using troll flesh, granting enhanced strength and binding her to their group.

Clen's moral framework blends ruthless pragmatism with a personal code of honor. He upholds promises and exhibits disdain for gratuitous cruelty, as demonstrated when confronting the bandit group the Ravens. Despite his capacity for genocide, observations of human resilience – particularly through Luna and Nell – challenge his initial verdict on humanity's worth. His journey involves continuous conflict with factions seeking to exploit Luna's royal lineage or Alicia's undead nature, forcing him to balance concealment with sporadic displays of his true power to protect his charges.
