Description
Akane Sakuramori is a high school student possessing exceptional beauty and a voluptuous, model-like figure, standing 165 cm tall with short brown hair contrasting her childhood long locks. Her personality is fiercely tsundere, marked by a short temper and frequent hostile outbursts directed solely at her classmate and academic rival, Saito Houjou. This antagonism stems from her frustration at consistently losing to him academically and irritation with his lazy demeanor. Despite this aggression towards Saito, she remains generally friendly towards others. She experiences significant difficulty expressing her true feelings, especially around Saito, often leading to unintended actions followed by regret. A serious and competitive individual, she deeply values family and harbors a strong, undisclosed dream motivating her actions, including accepting marriage to Saito.

Her background reveals an early connection to Saito, meeting as elementary students at their grandparents' marriage party. She spent time with him then, giving him her handkerchief—an encounter she remembered fondly and felt happy about, according to her sister Maho. Reuniting in high school, profound disappointment struck when Saito failed to recognize her, fueling their antagonistic relationship. Akane's devotion centers on her younger sister, Maho Sakuramori, hospitalized with a serious illness. Her dream of becoming a doctor is directly inspired by Maho's condition and her desire to prevent Maho's loneliness, serving as the primary motivator for accepting the arranged marriage. She also maintains a long-term friendship with Himari Ishikura since elementary school, initially characterized by mutual care and an absence of disputes.

The core event driving her story is the forced marriage to Saito, orchestrated by her grandmother, Chiyo Sakuramori, and Saito's grandfather, Tenryu Houjou, to rekindle their own unfulfilled romantic past. Despite vehemently disliking Saito, Akane agrees primarily to achieve her medical dream. Their early cohabitation involves constant arguments over trivial matters like household chores or Saito's hobbies. She initially keeps the marriage secret from classmates, especially Himari, exhibiting jealousy and possessiveness, such as attempting to stop Saito from dates (even if later revealed as jokes). Her inability to honestly confront growing feelings leads to cycles of pushing Saito away due to embarrassment after moments of closeness.

Living together forces Akane to reflect, gradually reducing her hostility and lowering her emotional guard. While initially presenting pure animosity, her true feelings involve hidden admiration for Saito's intelligence. She begins falling in love as she learns more about him, sympathizing with his harsh treatment by his parents. Witnessing this mistreatment firsthand in Volume 7, she actively defends Saito, confronting his parents and declaring them unfit. Her feelings deepen to genuine love, though she struggles with embarrassment admitting it openly. This evolution culminates in her ultimately marrying Saito for genuine reasons, rejecting advances from others like Himari and Maho.

Her friendship with Himari becomes a significant conflict. Himari, harboring a crush on Saito since their first year, discovers the marriage and perceives deception, causing their friendship to deteriorate. Himari becomes actively jealous, attempting to separate Akane and Saito to win him, leading to a heated romantic rivalry. Though they briefly reconcile and discuss sharing Saito, Himari's jealousy causes another rift. Eventually, in Volume 9, Himari reconciles after giving up, acknowledging Saito belongs to Akane but warning she would intervene if mistreated, leaving Akane frightened by her intensity. Regarding her sister Maho, Akane's adoration remains strong despite Maho manipulating the grandparents to become Saito's fiancée instead, creating temporary conflict. Akane recognizes Maho's illness as the catalyst for her own aspirations.
