Description
Sin Kiske is the son of Ky Kiske, human king of Illyria, and Dizzy, a half-Gear, making him one-quarter Gear. His accelerated growth, stemming from his Gear heritage, prompted Ky to entrust his upbringing to the bounty hunter Sol Badguy to shield him from unwanted attention. Raised by Sol, Sin developed considerable physical strength but received no formal education, resulting in a mischievous and often clueless personality. Despite his muscular frame suggesting an older age, he remains under ten years old and exhibits mental immaturity. He maintains an optimistic and straightforward outlook, frequently approaching situations with a simplicity that occasionally leads to breakthroughs.
Physically, Sin resembles his father with blonde hair and blue-green eyes, though he is taller and more muscular. His distinctive design includes an eyepatch bearing the phrase "Be a light onto yourself," a golden cross necklace, and clothing adorned with various inscriptions. In later appearances, his outfit features a black tank top, light blue jeans with "Idea makes dead" written on one leg, and accessories displaying phrases like "We can go anywhere" and "We can do anything." His primary weapon is a war flag, chosen after Sol sarcastically suggested he "wave a flag or something."
Sin harbors deep affection for his mother, Dizzy, and views Sol as a father figure, often calling him "Old man." His relationship with his father, Ky, is initially strained, leading him to deride Ky as a "shitty king," a tension rooted in Ky's responsibilities as ruler keeping him distant during Sin's childhood. Witnessing Ky's actions and receiving an apology eventually softens Sin's attitude. Their reconciliation solidifies after Dizzy is freed from a sealed state, with Sin finally addressing Ky as "Dad."
Throughout his story, Sin participates in key conflicts. On early adventures with Sol, he confronts threats like the Vizuel and Valentine, during which his Gear-derived powers are exploited for nefarious purposes before he regains control. He later aids in thwarting apocalyptic events involving Justice's revival and the Sanctus Maximus, where his rage unlocks latent abilities. His protective instincts surface when defending Ky during battles, emphasizing his commitment to family despite earlier disagreements.
At events surrounding his parents' wedding ceremony—intended to symbolize human-Gear unity—Sin intervenes to stop an assassination attempt by Unika, a Gear-hating antagonist. This confrontation triggers a manifestation of his dormant Gear powers. As these abilities emerge, he inadvertently activates dormant Gears in the area, leading others to dub him "King of Gears," a title placing him in a complex position amid ongoing tensions between humans and Gears.
Sin's interactions with other characters, such as the Valentine sisters, further shape his development. He forms bonds with Ramlethal Valentine, showing concern for her emotional well-being and distress at her apparent demise. His journey reflects ongoing growth as he navigates his hybrid identity, familial bonds, and role in a world grappling with the legacy of Gear-human conflict.
