Issei Miyazaki
Description
Issei Miyazaki is a Japanese voice actor born on May 31, 1971, in Hiroshima Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent agency TAB Production. His career in voice acting began at a young age; he made his debut in 1983 as the protagonist Gen in the animated film Barefoot Gen. He was selected for this pivotal role partly because he was a Hiroshima native and was the same age as the character at the time of casting.
Miyazaki is known for a wide range of roles across anime, video games, and drama CDs. One of his most recognized and enduring characters is Takashi Yamazaki from the Cardcaptor Sakura series. He first voiced the character in the 1998 television anime and continued in the 2000 theatrical film and the 2018 sequel series, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. Other significant anime roles include Yuunosuke Ogasawara in Azuki-chan, the young Jun Misugi in Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002, Muryou Subaru in Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars, Kenji Ninomiya in Kamichu!, Kazuhiro Uchida in Yomigaeru Sora - RESCUE WINGS -, and Kazuma Daizen in Bakusō Kyōdai Let's & Go!! Max. His film work includes roles in the X anime film as Subaru Sumeragi and both Barefoot Gen films as the protagonist Gen. In the video game and anime franchise Guilty Gear, he voices the character Sin Kiske, a role he will reprise in the 2025 anime adaptation Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers.
Throughout his career, Miyazaki has frequently collaborated with a number of other voice actors, including Yukana Nogami, Emi Shinohara, Yūko Minaguchi, and Tomokazu Seki. He has also worked extensively in radio dramas, particularly in the BL (Boys' Love) genre, where he has taken on leading roles in series such as Lovemode and Kimi wa Mutō -Clear Straight-. Beyond acting, he has hosted a long-running radio program called Burning Love and maintains a personal blog to interact with fans. A notable personal achievement stemming from his professional life is obtaining a license as a Shinto priest, which he pursued after working on the anime Kamichu! and has led him to participate in religious ceremonies.
