Huā Wú Zōng, known as the Eightfold Weaver of Illusions, serves as a disciple of the Order of the Divine Swarm under the insignia of the Spider. Once a master thief seeking renown in the martial world, he infiltrated the Xi-You Imperial Palace and uncovered a secret of its Emperor, Huò Shì Míng Huáng—who leads the Order. Impressed by this feat, the Emperor invited him into the Order’s highest echelons.

He considers himself the Order’s second-in-command, a belief strengthened by his knowledge of the Emperor’s secret. He prides himself on his beauty and often scorns women who excel beyond traditional feminine arts, leading to a contentious rivalry with fellow disciple Bà Wáng Yù. The two regularly undermine one another in competitions for merit.

In combat, he employs chains to ensnare opponents like prey in a web, then delivers a final blow with his sword. He also wields the Nimble Dragon Sword, a Magic Weapon of Divine Teaching gifted to him for battling demons. The blade possesses such sharpness it can split a demon demigod in two.

He and Bà Wáng Yù were dispatched to the Demon Realm on a mission presented as a scouting operation but secretly designed by the Emperor as a suicide task to lure out the realm’s rulers. During their ordeal, their rivalry softened into mutual respect and partnership. Together they defeated the demon noble Fù Ěr Léi Yí, a clash that cost Huā Wú Zōng his leg and left Bà Wáng Yù with a crippled shoulder. Through this trial, they recognized each other as kindred spirits and became romantic partners.

After their injuries and transformation, they resigned from the Order and withdrew into seclusion in Dōng Lí. Their departure entrusted the Order’s future to Yì Piāo Miǎo—actually Lǐn Xuě Yā in disguise—thwarting his long-planned schemes for their humiliation. Their journey reflects a convergence of opposites who found acceptance and a new path beyond the Order’s intrigues.
