Description
Akihito Takaba, a freelance photographer in his early twenties, lives in Tokyo after relocating from Kanagawa. Born May 5 as an only child with blood type O, he stands 175 cm tall and weighs around 60 kg. His hair is light blonde or platinum from dyeing; his eye color varies in illustrations, often appearing bluish-gray or hazel. He favors casual attire—t-shirts, jackets, jeans—and is rarely without his camera.
Once a delinquent with a Yokohama police record during high school, Akihito embraced photography influenced by his father. He deeply values a camera his father gave him, undertaking diverse photography jobs: magazine spreads, weddings, and investigative assignments exposing criminals. This investigative work draws him into dangerous encounters with underworld figures.
Cheerful yet stubborn and morally driven, Akihito maintains optimism but frequently disobeys authority and acts impulsively during investigations. His athleticism aids escapes, involving rooftop jumps or high-speed pursuits. However, his connection to crime lord Ryūichi Asami subjects him to physical and psychological trauma, including kidnapping, non-consensual encounters, and torture by Asami's rival Fei Long in Hong Kong. This captivity results in PTSD, causing nightmares, panic attacks, and emotional withdrawal.
Akihito's relationship with Asami evolves from adversarial to complexly romantic. Initially resistant, he struggles with attraction and fears being seen as a plaything, experiencing jealousy over Asami's underworld ties. After moving into Asami's apartment, he adopts domestic roles like cooking and cleaning, humorously termed his "housewife" phase. Despite conflicts, their bond deepens, with Akihito increasingly risking his life for Asami.
Later arcs intensify turmoil. In "Pray in the Abyss," Akihito and Asami suffer near-fatal injuries against Russian mafia forces, falling comatose. The "Innocent Eye" arc sees Akihito kidnapped, drugged, and brainwashed into an assassination attempt on Asami. Rescued but amnesic regarding Asami, he endures drug withdrawal yet feels unexplained attraction during recovery.
Akihito's dynamic with Fei Long shifts from hostile to mutually respectful. Fei Long initially kidnaps him for leverage against Asami but later spares him, recognizing Akihito's compassion. Akihito conversely influences Fei Long's actions, serving as a moral anchor in conflicts.
His skills extend beyond photography to include defensive firearms training. He speaks only Japanese and avoids foods like onions and tomatoes. Resilient yet marked by moral ambiguity from his experiences, he remains a target for underworld enemies due to his link to Asami.
