Description
Sayaka Arima navigates two separate lives: her real-world existence and her virtual identity as "May" within the Planet MMORPG. In reality, she sports neck-length black hair and favors plain dark clothing like a black dress and tights. Her digital counterpart, May, transforms dramatically with purple spiky bob hair featuring a fringe and a small metal cog decoration. May's virtual attire includes a white minidress detailed with purple stripes, layered sleeves, and long black boots.

Inside Planet, May initially focuses on non-combat activities like gardening and cooking at the Akabane Family base. Despite this peaceful role, she serves as the Akabane Family's primary healer, wielding combat magic that also empowers other players, boosting their effectiveness in battle. The Granada Guild supplies her with gardening materials and magical items in exchange for rare items provided by the Akabane Family.

Sayaka's real-life background identifies her as the wife of Kojirou Arima and mother to sons Taichirou and Asuma. Her familial relationships are broken; she physically abandoned the household before the series began without explanation or revealing her destination. She neglected her maternal duties, partly overwhelmed by her husband's abusive and perfectionist behavior, and sustained by a delusion that her deceased daughter remained alive. Despite this detachment, underlying care persists, fueling a desire for eventual reconciliation.

Unbeknownst to its members, the Akabane Family unit within Planet mirrors her real family structure. This virtual family offers an alternative space for connection, operating under a strict rule against inquiring about offline identities. Her participation represents both an escape from and an unconscious recreation of familial bonds.

Her journey involves navigating the increasingly blurred lines between the virtual and real worlds as events within Planet impact reality. This convergence forces confrontations with hidden truths about her family members' identities online and offline, challenging her capacity to rebuild fractured relationships while facing the consequences of her past neglect.
