Description
Ono no Imoko steps into the series as a historical Kenzuishi envoy charged with leading diplomatic ventures to China alongside Prince Shōtoku. Their pivotal mission to Luoyang thrusts them into a clash with Emperor Yang of Sui—an alien from the planet Octopus secretly manipulating human minds. The envoy’s efforts unravel into bedlam as grueling travels fray sanity and the emperor’s otherworldly machinations unleash increasingly bizarre challenges.
After fleeing Luoyang’s chaos, the character returns to Japan to take charge of constructing Hōryū-ji temple. When construction stalls, Prince Shōtoku’s mounting pressure ignites frantic efforts to accelerate progress under ludicrous constraints, culminating in catastrophic consequences for both figures.
Later escapades embroil Ono no Imoko in historically inspired yet absurdist episodes, such as treaty negotiations with Townsend Harris overrun by malfunctioning inventions and derailed by erratic stratagems. Throughout these exploits, the character anchors the role of a beleaguered straight foil, perpetually ensnared in parodic twists on pivotal events that spotlight exaggerated blunders and slapstick disasters.
No documented personal backstory or evolution extends beyond these mission-driven antics. The narrative lens fixates on their interactions within warped historical contexts, preserving a steadfastly static presence amid chaos-steeped, humor-laden plots across all adaptations.
