Description
Momoyuki Mogura appears ordinary yet endures immortality after an incident banned him from the afterlife. This banishment revoked his right to carry spiritual fire, trapping him in an ageless but decaying body that requires sustenance despite his inability to die. His singular mission is collecting spirit fire from ghosts using a specialized lantern, striving to amass enough for reentry to the afterlife.

He sustains himself by inhaling substances from this lantern and runs a bathhouse repair shop serving as his sanctuary. This space functions both as a medical station for treating his injuries with improvised supplies and a location where he discloses his supernatural predicament to others. Immortality does not exempt him from everyday hardships—he contends with financial strain, television licensing fees, and consumption taxes.

His existence spans decades, including documented experiences from 1924 and wartime involvement by 1942, reflecting a lifespan far exceeding human norms. This obscured history directly fuels his current motivations.

Encounters with him awaken the ability to perceive supernatural phenomena in others. He navigates urban alleys with agility, employing practical tactics like rope-snatching phones. During spirit confrontations, he attacks ghosts with his lantern to extract their spirit fire, exemplified when exorcising a ghost haunting Shio Inukai.

He juggles mortal struggles with immortal burdens, a duality intersecting in his quest. His path crosses with individuals like university students Kuriaki Magi and Yaeko Kirihara, whom he draws into his mission after a chance meeting. References to "seeing the depths of hell" during wartime underscore his hardened pragmatism toward eternity.
