Description
Baruka leads the Ice Elves and acts as the primary antagonist in the Red Gate incident. He possesses blue skin, elongated sharp ears, white eyes, and spiky white hair, marked by three distinct purple-red glowing symbols on his forehead. His attire is a winter-themed tailcoat. Personality-wise, he exhibits sadistic tendencies, taking pleasure in murdering humans and displaying arrogance during combat. He demonstrates keen observational skills, quickly identifying Sung Jinwoo as an extraordinary threat. His selfish nature surfaces when he attempts to bargain for his own survival by offering the lives of his Ice Elf comrades.
Baruka and his forces massacre nearly all members of Kim Chul's hunter party within the Red Gate dungeon, leaving only Kim alive to flee. The Ice Elves secretly pursue Kim using stealth abilities but are detected by Sung Jinwoo. Recognizing Jinwoo's power, Baruka proposes a truce, offering the lives of his remaining Ice Elf soldiers in exchange for his own safety. Jinwoo rejects this offer. A battle ensues, with Jinwoo deploying his shadow soldiers—Igris and Iron—against Baruka. Despite Baruka's immense speed and combat prowess allowing him to contend simultaneously against Jinwoo and multiple shadows, he is ultimately overpowered. Jinwoo breaks Baruka's blade using accelerated dagger throws enhanced by telekinesis. In a final desperate attack, Baruka seizes Jinwoo's arm but is killed when Iron regenerates and crushes him into the ground.
Baruka's abilities include exceptional combat speed, enabling him to engage multiple powerful opponents at once, and mastery of stealth that allows him to nearly erase his physical and magical presence. Following his defeat, Jinwoo attempts to resurrect Baruka as a shadow soldier using Shadow Extraction but fails. Possible reasons for this failure include the significant power disparity between them at the time, Baruka's unbroken mental resolve resisting subjugation, or narrative necessity—successful extraction might have prematurely alerted the Frost Monarch, Sillad, to Jinwoo's activities. Jinwoo does not attempt to resurrect any other Ice Elves, potentially due to time constraints, perceived insufficient strength compared to existing shadows, or prioritization challenges after Baruka's defeat. Baruka's dialogue references mysterious "voices" commanding monsters to attack humans, later implied to be linked to the Architect's schemes within the System; these voices were intentionally obscured or "glitched" to prevent Jinwoo from uncovering deeper truths prematurely.
Baruka does not appear in storylines beyond the Red Gate incident, and no resurrection or return occurs in later arcs, spin-offs, or other official media.
