TV-Series
Description
Edin Dan is a Regular who serves as a Scout on the 30th Floor during the Workshop Battle, where he becomes a member of Khun Aguero Agnis's team. He is a young man with long black hair that he typically keeps tied back in a ponytail, accompanied by dark eyes and apricot skin. His usual attire consists of a plain orange vest worn over a brown shirt. To avoid surveillance from FUG during the Workshop Battle, he adopts the alias Dinn and changes his appearance by dyeing his hair orange and wearing an orange tank top with black training pants.
Edin Dan is defined by his pride in his natural abilities, specifically his incredible speed, but also by a deep-seated reluctance to climb the Tower. This reluctance stems from a traumatic past in which his original teammates were killed, leaving him as the sole survivor who fled using his fast legs. This event caused him to develop a disillusionment with the Tower's lethal system, leading him to stop climbing and live as a hunter on the 25th Floor. As a result, he declined all invitations to join other teams. Despite his initial pride, he shows a determined resolve to never become useless or give in to despair, a conviction that becomes central to his character after a major crisis.
At his core, Dan is a determined individual who, despite wanting to avoid the dangers of the Tower, accepts the consequences of a lost bet. He does not whine or try to escape his agreement with Khun, showing a grudging respect for the terms of their deal. His personality leans towards the cheeky and confident, at least until he is humbled by the far greater strength of his new teammates, quickly learning his place within the group's pecking order. After suffering a severe betrayal, his fundamental decency and goodwill come to the forefront, revealing a man of principle who refuses to bow to the despair his enemies wish upon him.
Dan is introduced when Khun seeks him out specifically for his unparalleled speed. Initially, he refuses Khun's offer to join his team, citing his exhaustion with the endless cycle of killing and death among Regulars. Khun then entices him into a gamble: if Dan can escape from a cafe without being caught, he will receive a valuable floating stone; if Khun catches him, he must join the team. Confident in his speed, Dan accepts but is ultimately outsmarted and captured by Khun, forcing him to join. He is subsequently placed last in the team's internal ranking battle after being swiftly defeated by Novick. His primary role in the story is to act as a fence around Rachel, using his speed for reconnaissance and tactical support.
His most significant relationship is with Rachel, which turns tragically violent. After he helps his team secure a victory on the 29th Floor by using the AI program Emile to locate and disable enemy cannons, he meets Rachel. She compliments his speed and asks him to become her legs. Confused, he dismisses the encounter. Later, when FUG operatives move to kill him, Rachel intervenes and repeats her request. This time, Dan refuses in disgust, telling her to use her own legs since she betrayed her previous teammates. Enraged, Rachel stabs him repeatedly, deliberately destroying the legs that are the source of his pride and ability. This event cripples him, but he refuses to succumb to despair. He insists on going to the Workshop Battle to prove that he will not give up, contrasting his current resolve with his past trauma of having run away. He also forms a rapport with teammates like Rak Wraithraiser, with whom he fights alongside during the Workshop Battle's Plug event.
Dan experiences a profound character development arc defined by loss and perseverance. His initial character is shaped by the trauma of surviving his original team by running away. After being forced into Khun's team and having his legs destroyed by Rachel, he is faced with a similar situation but makes a different choice. Instead of fleeing or giving up, he resolves to continue climbing and fighting, transforming from a reluctant participant into a resilient individual who refuses to let his disability or his enemies break his spirit.
Dan's core ability is his extreme speed, for which he is known as a Speeder. During his early ascent, his speed was such that he was never caught by an enemy Lighthouse, making his talents highly sought after. Even Ran, one of the strongest members of Khun's team, acknowledges that Dan's speed is unrivaled. However, this exceptional mobility does not translate into combat power; his fighting abilities are considered weak compared to his teammates, and his instantaneous speed in battle is significantly slower than that of other fighters like Ran and Novick. When he uses his speed, it is often depicted with red or yellow electric-like sparks at his feet. After Rachel's attack, his legs are severely damaged, and though he undergoes rehabilitation to regain the ability to walk and even run in short bursts, he can never again achieve the same level of speed as before.
