Description
Kyururu awakens inside an egg-shaped structure within a mysterious Japari Park laboratory, devoid of identity or origin memories. This character is a perfect clone created by the Cellien Queen using a copied heart from a human boy attacked during a family vacation—a boy saved by a second-generation Serval who transformed into a Beast at the cost of her own form. After surviving with memory loss and living to old age, the boy’s essence is replicated to form Kyururu. Upon awakening, Kyururu discovers a sketchbook previously bought by the original boy from a merchandise store; its drawings of pre-amnesia Japari Park locations become the central guide for finding home.
Kyururu possesses black hair fading to turquoise at the edges and heterochromatic blue-irised eyes: the right pupil red, the left light blue-green. Two tufts of hair protrude upward when hatless. The attire features a black shirt under a blue sleeveless jacket, gray pants folded at the shins with a white belt, and light blue shoes. A blue safari hat with a white, blue, and turquoise-feathered tip is always worn. Kyururu carries a sketchbook bearing yellow-green rectangular designs and a single-strap blue backpack.
Initially timid and soft-spoken, Kyururu battles fragmented memories but grows increasingly assertive. Emotions often override rationality, dictating behavior. A deep passion for drawing drives Kyururu to document experiences in the sketchbook and gift sketches to Friends as kindness tokens. Resourceful problem-solving includes repairing objects, crafting items from unrelated materials, and inventing games to resolve conflicts or ease boredom. Though occasionally skeptical or disappointed in others, Kyururu acknowledges faults when proven wrong.
The journey home begins after meeting Serval and Caracal in a forest. Serval names Kyururu after a hungry stomach’s sound. Together, they traverse Japari Park guided by sketchbook drawings. Early cowardice—like struggling to cross small gaps—contrasts with ingenuity: reassembling playground equipment, improvising toys for marine Friends, or comforting distressed characters like Red Panda. Bonds with Serval and Caracal strengthen, though Kyururu’s desperation to return home strains interactions.
Kyururu’s actions ignite controversy. Domestic Dog, having waited twenty centuries for a master, faces perceived ingratitude: rejected tea, ignored wounds after a fight with Siberian Tiger, and immediate compliance with her "go home" request without offering aid. Later, sketches unintentionally summon Ceruleans that cause massive destruction, including Siberian Tiger’s demise. Kyururu encounters Kaban as an adult researcher but fails to reconcile Serval’s memory loss or explain their separation.
The manga adaptation depicts heightened helpfulness, consideration, and character development. During the Kemono Friends World exhibition, additional backstory reveals the original human boy’s insecurities about his facial features.
