Description
Yuri is one of two siblings who befriend the floral magician Mary Bell upon her arrival in the human world. She lives with her younger brother, Ken, and their parents, Takuro and Remi, in the port town of Sunny Bell. Her family runs a flower shop named after the storybook character.
Approximately six years old with red hair and a mild temperament, Yuri possesses a strong belief in fantastical elements like fairies, elves, witches, and magic. This faith is inspired by her favorite picture book, a gift from their elderly neighbor Rose, which tells of Mary Bell aiding lost children.
Worried about their parents’ struggling flower shop, Yuri and Ken wish for the storybook character to appear and help them. Their wish is granted when Mary Bell emerges from a flower, and Yuri swiftly accepts her as a friend and companion.
A kind and genial individual, Yuri gets along with everyone she meets and is a friend to all living things. She reinforces this trait by following Mary Bell’s example in caring for Earth’s flora and fauna, including helping to look after a duck named Peepchee. Her social circle includes a boy named Bongo, who is identified as her boyfriend. At times, Yuri can exhibit occasional selfishness and shyness.
Initially, Yuri and Ken are not immediately ready to believe Mary Bell is the real character from their book. This changes after their neighbor Rose, a firm believer in fairies, recognizes and welcomes the magical girl.
Yuri participates in many of Mary Bell’s adventures in Sunny Bell and the Flower Magic World. She plays a role in the series’ climax when the Holy Tree of the Flower Magic World attempts to remove all plants from Earth. Yuri and Ken journey to the Flower Magic World to help resurrect Mary Bell after she is overcome, and they later assist in convincing the Holy Tree that humanity deserves a second chance.
