Description
The Doctor is a central figure in the anime Arknights: Perish in Frost, serving as the field commander for the pharmaceutical company Rhodes Island. The character awakens at the start of the series with no memories of their past, having been discovered inside an ancient device known as the Sarcophagus in the city of Chernobog. Prior to this amnesia, the Doctor was a lead researcher in the study of Oripathy, a fatal disease caused by the mineral Originium, and also held expertise in neurology. Despite the loss of personal memories, their tactical knowledge and strategic instincts remain intact, allowing them to command Rhodes Island operators effectively in combat situations. The Doctor lacks combat abilities of their own and possesses little physical strength, relying entirely on their intellect to guide others through dangerous operations.

In terms of personality, the Doctor is portrayed as calm, analytical, and deeply compassionate, particularly toward the infected individuals who suffer from Oripathy. While their past self was described as a ruthless strategist who viewed soldiers as pieces on a chessboard, the amnesiac Doctor exhibits a strong moral compass and a protective instinct toward their allies. During the events of Perish in Frost, which adapts the fourth through sixth chapters of the Arknights storyline, the Doctor demonstrates empathy even toward enemies, most notably FrostNova. After defeating the Reunion leader in battle, the Doctor remains by her side during her final moments, offering comfort and accepting her into Rhodes Island before she dies in their arms. The Doctor also shows outrage when young operators like Rosmontis are placed in dangerous combat situations, demanding to know who deployed them before accepting that the choice was their own.

The Doctor's primary motivation is to lead Rhodes Island through the crisis caused by the Reunion movement while finding ways to treat and cure Oripathy. After losing FrostNova, the Doctor personally requests that Kal'tsit, Rhodes Island's medical director, register her as a member of the organization posthumously. The Doctor is driven not only by strategic necessity but by a genuine desire to protect the infected and prevent further unnecessary deaths. As the story progresses, glimpses of the Doctor's hidden past begin to surface. Kal'tsit reveals that she truly hates the Doctor for their supposed role in the death of Theresa, the former leader of Babel, Rhodes Island's predecessor organization. However, Theresa's final wish bound Kal'tsit to protect both the Doctor and Amiya, forcing her to set aside her resentment. The Doctor also begins to recall fragments of their past, including memories of a woman named Priestess who claims they will meet again. These flashes suggest the Doctor lived thousands of years ago and may belong to an ancient, forgotten race that predates the current inhabitants of Terra.

The Doctor's key relationships define much of their role in the story. Their bond with Amiya, the young leader of Rhodes Island, is especially significant. Amiya treats the Doctor as a parental figure, having been raised by them before the amnesia. She demonstrates unwavering loyalty and trust, vowing to stop the Doctor personally if they ever become a threat to others. The relationship with Kal'tsit is more complicated, built on a foundation of mutual necessity and hidden resentment. Other operators, including Ace and Scout, regard the Doctor as a close friend and mentor, while former Babel members such as W see the Doctor as an enemy, placing them on a personal hit-list for their role in Theresa's assassination.

The Doctor's notable abilities center entirely on strategic command and scientific expertise. Even with no memories to guide them, the Doctor can instantly assess battlefield conditions and issue orders that lead Rhodes Island forces to victory. They possess enough medical and research knowledge to contribute meaningfully to Oripathy treatment efforts. The Doctor's blood possesses unique properties that Kal'tsit uses to create a stabilizing solution for Amiya when her Oripathy symptoms become severe. Furthermore, the Doctor appears to be immune to Oripathy infection, cannot be affected by Originium in the same way as other Terrans, and can manipulate Originium subconsciously. As the series hints, the Doctor may have originally been part of an ancient civilization's plan to use Originium as a defense against cosmic threats, though these memories remain fragmented and incomplete.

Throughout Perish in Frost, the Doctor develops from a confused amnesiac into a decisive and emotionally engaged commander. The loss of FrostNova, whom they came to understand and sympathize with during their first encounter, leaves a lasting impact. The Doctor carries her body back to Rhodes Island for cremation and insists she be recognized as a member. This experience reinforces their commitment to finding a better path forward. By the end of the story arc covered in the anime, the Doctor has not only proven their tactical value but has also begun confronting the weight of their forgotten past, including the suspicion that they once orchestrated the death of someone Theresa loved and trusted. The Doctor asks Amiya what she would do if they turned out to be a bad person, receiving the response that she would stop them herself a moment that underscores the complex trust and accountability at the heart of their relationship.
