TV Special
Description
Teruki Hanazawa attends Black Vinegar Private Middle School as a third-year student. Initially an antagonist, he evolves into a friend and rival to Shigeo Kageyama. Possessing significant psychic abilities, his early lack of exposure to other espers fostered an overestimation of his own importance and power. This overconfidence led him to use telekinesis for personal gain, manipulating social situations and achieving perfect results in activities like bowling. He viewed himself as the world's protagonist, strategically using his powers to maintain popularity.

His worldview shatters after confronting Shigeo. In their initial conflict, Teruki attempts to force Shigeo to unleash full power, employing telekinetically controlled knives. This results in his scalp being shaved bald when the attack deflects. After rendering Shigeo unconscious, he triggers an uncontrollable outburst that demolishes the school and leaves Teruki physically and psychologically broken. The defeat causes a three-day fever and a fundamental perspective shift, leading him to accept he is "just an ordinary person." He adopts Shigeo's principle of not using psychic abilities against others unless necessary.

Despite this transformation, Teruki retains his inherent confidence and flamboyant demeanor. He becomes motivated to prevent others from falling to the pride that consumed him, demonstrating leadership by mentoring five children from Claw's Awakening Lab. He exhibits strong willpower by resisting brainwashing twice during the Divine Tree Arc. His concern for appearances persists, including anxiety over hair loss during battles against Shimazaki of Claw's Ultimate 5 and Shigeo's ???% outburst. Teruki compensates for baldness with wigs, a recurring element symbolizing his vulnerability.

He refines his psychic techniques through diligent training, compensating for lesser raw power than Shigeo by mastering versatile applications. He quickly replicates observed abilities, like immobilizing opponents between barriers. He employs multi-layered defenses and imbues objects such as scarves with psychic energy. During the Divine Tree conflict, he physically intervenes to stop Shigeo from attacking Dimple, arguing that dissolving the cult by force disregards its members' agency. He strategically threatens to end their friendship to de-escalate the situation, emphasizing collective opposition if Shigeo ignores others' "precious" beliefs.

In the ???% Arc, Teruki attempts to reason with Shigeo during an uncontrolled rampage, using a psychic-imbued scarf and maximum barrier defense. Though easily overpowered, he persists in invoking their shared principle against using powers on people. His clothes are destroyed, and his scalp is bared again.

In the OVA "REIGEN: The Miraculous Unknown Psychic," Teruki appears during the 7th Division Arc recap. His role includes aiding in the infiltration of Claw's facility and fighting alongside allies. The OVA presents altered sequences where Reigen humorously takes credit for Teruki's actions, such as defeating Claw members Terada and others. Teruki later participates in fact-checking Reigen's embellished book manuscript to ensure its accuracy reflects actual events.
