Description
Izumi hails from a humble Hinomoto farming village, not the samurai lineage she frequently asserts. She taught herself swordsmanship and crafted the false identity of a master in her self-proclaimed "War God Fencing Style." Exposure of this deception in Hinomoto forced her flight to the continent to escape the consequences.
While traveling, she met Annelotte, leader of the Rebel Army, and began journeying alongside her group. Izumi initially presents herself as a skilled ronin, insisting her alignment is mere coincidence of path, not active pursuit of their cause. Her formal recruitment occurs when Annelotte finds her in a village of orphaned children. Witnessing Annelotte's superior combat prowess compels Izumi to humbly request training, securing her place within the Rebel Army.
Her personality blends vanity with a fierce aversion to defeat. She clings to her fabricated samurai persona to project strength and reacts defensively to accusations of fraud. Despite an aloof demeanor and independent streak, she exhibits genuine loyalty to Annelotte, willingly risking herself in battle to protect the rebellion.
In combat, Izumi employs a katana with self-taught swordsmanship. She also wields a conch shell whistle; its melody temporarily boosts ally strength and morale. Additionally, she possesses exceptional archery skill, utilizing a technique called "Divine Aid Arrows" known for its tricky, disorienting effects.
Physically, she stands approximately 154 cm (5'0") tall. She has dark brown hair tied in a ponytail and amber eyes. Her attire consists of a black and red samurai breastplate with pauldrons, a red scarf, a white loincloth, a metal leg band, and black shin guards worn with sandals and tabi socks.
A key backstory moment involves her confronting a powerful enemy after her whistle accidentally alerts it during an argument with Rebel Army members over her legitimacy. She defeats this foe to prove her worth and solidify her position within the group.
Trivia notes state her name means "fountain" in Japanese. Her character design resembles Shinobu-chan from an earlier artbook by her designer, as well as Asuka from the Senran Kagura series.
