Description
Shidou Itsuka, a blue-haired high school student, was adopted by the Itsuka family following abandonment by his biological mother. This abandonment forged his extreme sensitivity to others' despair, defining his core empathy. His origins trace back to Shinji Takamiya, who lived thirty years prior and shared a relationship with the First Spirit, Mio. After Isaac Westcott killed Shinji, Mio reconstructed him as the human-Spirit hybrid Shido, granting him the unique ability to seal Spirit powers.

His primary power seals Spirits' abilities through a kiss, contingent upon the Spirit's high affection, trust, and emotional stability. A successful seal establishes a reiryoku link, enabling him to manifest their Angels—like Tohka's Sandalphon or Kurumi's Zafkiel. Extreme emotional instability in a Spirit can cause their powers to revert temporarily. Upon sealing all ten Spirits by Volume 19, the accumulated reiryoku within him destabilizes, shifting his personality into a confident yet reckless state. Restoring balance requires emotional stabilization from the Spirits themselves.

Season 3 conflicts focus on Natsumi and Origami. Natsumi initially antagonizes him, disguising herself as Shidou to sabotage his reputation and erasing his friends. He identifies her true form as Yoshinon by deducing behavioral inconsistencies. Later, he helps Natsumi overcome self-loathing about her childlike appearance through demonstrated acceptance, earning her trust for sealing. The Origami arc reveals deeper ties: using Kurumi's time-manipulation Angel <Yud Bet>, Shidou travels five years into the past to investigate Origami's inversion. There, he saves her younger self from a collapsing building but inadvertently causes the fire that kills her parents—exposing how Origami's lifelong vendetta against Spirits originated from his future actions. This trauma triggers Origami's inversion into a destructive state, resolved only when Shidou physically intervenes and reaffirms his vow to save her.

His development involves grappling with moral ambiguity. Learning of Kurumi's violent actions and Mukuro's rejection of his ideals prompts him to question whether sealing powers truly protects Spirits, as it leaves them vulnerable to antagonists like DEM Industries. Support from other Spirits and his innate resolve to prevent despair mitigate these doubts. Physically, he possesses blue hair and brown eyes that shift gold when using Spirit powers, standing 170 cm tall. He cross-dresses as "Shiori Itsuka" with long hair and female attire to approach the Spirit Miku.

Relationships with the Spirits evolve into interdependent bonds. While maintaining romantic connections with multiple Spirits—particularly Tohka and Origami—his commitment to their collective well-being fosters cooperation. The Spirits frequently unite during crises, such as destroying falling satellites or stabilizing his out-of-control reiryoku, reflecting shared trust in his leadership.
