Description
Shido Itsuka has blue hair and brown eyes that shift to gold during spirit power activation, standing 170 cm tall. Originally born as Shinji Takamiya roughly 30 years before the main timeline, he died shielding Mio Takamiya from Isaac Westcott. Mio revived him by assimilating his remains and granting hybrid human-spirit physiology, enabling his abilities. Abandoned afterward by Mio, he joined the Itsuka family as Kotori’s adoptive brother, an event that heightened his sensitivity to others’ suffering and motivated his spirit-saving resolve. Five years pre-series, Phantom’s interference turned Kotori into a spirit, temporarily erasing their memories of the incident.

His core power seals spirit abilities through kissing, demanding mutual trust and affection to function. Successful seals forge reiryoku links, though emotional turmoil in spirits may trigger partial power reflux. Sealing multiple spirits grants him access to their angels—Sandalphon, Haniel, Michael, Metatron, and Zafkiel—but wielding them strains his body. Excess accumulated energy risks instability, provoking berserk episodes or personality shifts; one overload crisis required collective spirit kisses to stabilize him.

Notable events include journeying five years into the past via Kurumi’s twelfth bullet and Natsumi’s size manipulation to probe Origami’s history. There, he saved her from fiery wreckage, vowing to bear her despair—a pledge that secured her lifelong loyalty. In Natsumi’s arc, he thwarted her reputation sabotage by unmasking her disguise using Yoshino’s puppet Yoshinon. Revealing her true child form, he aided her self-acceptance through shared vulnerability before sealing her powers. Later, DEM Industries’ capture of Tohka prompted his high-risk rescue attempt, accidentally triggering her inversion. A kiss ultimately restored her sanity.

Protective bonds define his relationships: he named Tohka after their meeting date and maintains profound ties to her and Origami. With Kotori, he juggles sibling affection and Ratatoskr duties. Though wary of Kurumi’s violence, he allies with her for shared objectives like Tohka’s salvation. His empathy extends to spirits like Miku, whom he assisted by cross-dressing as Shiori Itsuka to circumvent her hatred of men.
