Description
Rachel Stewart Links serves as lead scientist for the Martian revolutionary military BAHRAM, overseeing the Orbital Frame development project. She spearheads the creation of the prototype Orbital Frame Idolo, utilizing the rare mineral Metatron. This grants the Frame enhanced capabilities but triggers unforeseen psychological effects on its pilot. Her research team includes assistants Dolores Hayes and Melissa, with Radium Lavans and Viola Gyune as test pilots.
During Idolo's testing phase, she observes Radium's deteriorating mental state—marked by increasing aggression and hallucinations—linked to piloting the Frame. Concerned about these adverse effects, she requests removal from the project. BAHRAM authorities, citing her extensive knowledge of military secrets, place her under arrest instead.
Earth's United Nations Space Force (UNSF) subsequently infiltrates the facility, kidnapping Rachel and Dolores Hayes to acquire Orbital Frame technology. During a rescue attempt by Radium piloting Idolo, Dolores is fatally shot. Rachel survives this Deimos Incident but is captured by UNSF forces, leading BAHRAM to presume her dead.
Five years later, during the events of Dolores, i, she is revealed as a prisoner held on Mars. Her captivity involves minimal activity, limited to tending roses in an underground garden. Her children, Leon and Noel Links, eventually locate and rescue her. They gain access to the compound with indirect assistance from Radium. Following the rescue, it is discovered she is pregnant with another child.
Her personal history includes leaving her husband, James Links, and their children on Earth due to her commitment to aiding Martian independence. This decision strained her family relationships. She maintained a connection through her work; the Orbital Frame AI Dolores, i later incorporates a lullaby unique to Rachel, suggesting her indirect influence on later AI development. Her technical legacy includes Idolo's wreckage being repurposed to construct subsequent Orbital Frames Isis and Hathor.
