Lillabit lives in Foothill Forest. Raised by her uncle, Dr. Snoozabit, she believes her birth parents died soon after she was born, a loss that sometimes brings sadness when she sees others with their families. She carries responsibility for her uncle, who struggles with alcohol dependency, managing his well-being and household duties, which occasionally causes frustration despite her fundamentally kind and level-headed nature.

A unique trait allows her to communicate directly with animals, forging close bonds with forest creatures like her companion and transportation, Snuffly the flying squirrel. Relationships with other young villagers shape her experiences, including a strong friendship with the primary protagonist, Willibit, and navigating attention from the mayor's son, Snagglebit, who sees Willibit as a rival for her affection.

Lillabit's background undergoes a profound shift when she discovers her parents are actually alive. They belong to the "Wanderbits," descendants of the exiled "Builderbit" race, banished long ago due to conflict with forest animals. Their return to Foothill Forest leads to a reunion. The village ultimately accepts them, resolving Lillabit's orphan status. Shortly after this reunion, a major earthquake impacts the forest, prompting collective rebuilding efforts where she participates alongside the community.

Her journey involves navigating feelings of difference stemming from her orphaned status, forming deep connections with animals and peers, managing complex family dynamics with her uncle, and ultimately integrating the truth about her lineage and living parents into her identity.
