Description
Kyousuke Natsume founded and leads the Little Busters. He is one year older than the other core members and Rin Natsume's older brother. Kyousuke frequently proposes seemingly absurd ideas but consistently follows them with fun or reasonable explanations. He denies having a lolita complex yet desires Rin to call him "onii-chan," a request she refuses. Within the group, he acts as a guiding figure and role model, especially for Riki Naoe.

During their childhood, Kyousuke forged the original Little Busters to provide Rin, Masato Inohara, Kengo Miyazawa, and later Riki Naoe with a supportive environment for play and normalcy. This intervention helped Riki overcome depression after his parents' death and offered all of them stability.

After a catastrophic bus accident, Kyousuke initiated the creation of an artificial world. Collaborating with others involved in the crash, he constructed this simulated reality to prepare Riki and Rin—the potential sole survivors—for the harsh truth. This artificial world resets repeatedly, functioning as an endless loop of their final school semester. Its initial purpose was fostering joy, camaraderie, and growth through shared experiences and baseball. Kyousuke deliberately recruited Komari Kamikita, Haruka Saigusa, Kudryavka Noumi, Yuiko Kurugaya, and Mio Nishizono to join the Little Busters within this world, intending their interactions to strengthen Riki and Rin.

Kyousuke possesses the ability to travel between the artificial world and the real world. In the original visual novel, he frequently shifts to the real-world crash site, attempting to prevent the bus explosion by crawling toward a gasoline leak. However, each transition between worlds resets his position, hindering progress. He eventually realizes replicating his initial state of death at the incident allows him to alter his point of existence. He achieves this by stabbing himself with a shattered window shard and using his body to seal the leaking pipe, sacrificing himself to delay the explosion. The anime adaptation modifies this sequence, removing the position reset and showing sustained progress during his crawl.

Kyousuke's methods within the artificial world face limitations. His approach of disbanding the Little Busters to accelerate Riki and Rin's growth in the "Rin 2" sequence proves too harsh, triggering Rin's mental breakdown. After this failure, he adopts a less direct role, occasionally providing hints while focusing on mitigating the real-world explosion. Riki subsequently assumes leadership, reforms the group, and strengthens Rin. Kyousuke later reveals the truth of the artificial world and the impending crash to Riki and Rin, enabling them to confront reality.

In the "true ending," where Riki and Rin successfully save everyone from the bus crash, Kyousuke survives but sustains injuries requiring extended hospitalization. He is the last member of the Little Busters to return to school.

Regarding "Kud Wafter," occurring during summer vacation after the main narrative, Kyousuke does not appear. This absence is consistent with his ongoing recovery in the hospital following the bus crash.
