TV-Series
Description
Carla belongs to the feline-like Exceed species from Edolas, specifically the kingdom of Extalia. She is the daughter of Queen Shagotte and inherited her mother's unique precognition magic. During her embryonic development, Queen Shagotte sent her egg to Earth-land via the Anima device, alongside other Exceed eggs, as part of a plan to protect the species from Extalia's prophesied destruction. This evacuation was disguised as a mission to eliminate Dragon Slayers, a directive Carla initially misinterpreted as her purpose. After Wendy Marvell discovered her egg, Carla hatched and forged an unbreakable bond with the young Sky Dragon Slayer, becoming her constant companion and protector. They resided together in the guild Cait Shelter before eventually joining Fairy Tail.
Carla exhibits a predominantly serious, disciplined, and reserved personality, often appearing aloof and rarely displaying overt emotions—a stark contrast to fellow Exceed Happy's carefree nature. She displays deep maternal concern for Wendy, frequently guiding and scolding her to help overcome her timidity. Initially, Carla maintained distance from others outside her partnership with Wendy, showing particular disdain for Happy's attempts at friendship and gifts of fish. Her belief in the fabricated mission to kill a Dragon Slayer caused significant internal conflict and sadness, especially as her affection for Wendy grew, ultimately leading her to abandon the supposed mission. Over time, exposure to Fairy Tail's members and values fostered character development. Witnessing Happy's loyalty and bravery, particularly his defense of her autonomy against the Edolas mission narrative, gradually softened her attitude. She began showing him respect, sharing moments of camaraderie, dancing, and even smiling or laughing in his presence. This evolution allowed her to form warmer bonds with guild members while retaining her core composed nature.
Carla possesses standard Exceed abilities, primarily Aera magic, enabling her to sprout large, white, angelic wings for flight. She demonstrates sufficient strength to carry at least one person while airborne. Within this ability, she utilizes "Max Speed" for significantly increased velocity at the cost of rapid magic power depletion. She also employs flight-based physical attacks like "Scratch," using her wings horizontally to slash targets. Her inherited magic is Precognition, a rare ability shared only with her mother among the Exceed. This power initially caused confusion, contributing to her misunderstanding of her mission. After Fairy Tail's temporary disbandment and a one-year timeskip—during which she and Wendy joined Lamia Scale before assisting in the guild's revival—Carla gained proficiency in Transformation Magic. This allows her to assume a humanoid form resembling a young girl around Wendy's age, retaining her cat ears and tail adorned with her signature pink bow. This form slightly enhances her overall magic power, consequently strengthening her precognitive abilities, and grants physical combat prowess. In human form, she utilizes swift and powerful kicks, notably the technique "White Moon," a cartwheel into a dropkick capable of defeating formidable opponents like members of Orochi's Fin. Another human-form attack is "White Suns," a high-speed flying charge ramming targets with her arms.
Temporarily, under the influence of Yoko's "Demons' Parade" magic during the 100 Years Quest, Carla was transformed into a Yokai named Suiko. This form altered her appearance into a large, quadrupedal tiger, retaining an enlarged version of her tail bow. While transformed, she gained access to "Spirit Power" (Reiryoku), enhancing her physical abilities and granting resistance to ice-based attacks, such as those from Gray Fullbuster.
Carla's journey involves significant arcs. During the Oración Seis conflict, she supported Wendy within the alliance, revealing Wendy's healing capabilities to save Erza Scarlet and aiding in the search for kidnapped comrades. She accompanied Natsu Dragneel and Gray Fullbuster, witnessed their battles, and later helped Wendy reach Nirvana to destroy its Lacrima. In the anime-exclusive Daphne arc, she accompanied Wendy, Natsu, and Happy on a mission, witnessed Gray's apparent betrayal, and later aided Fairy Tail in combating Daphne's Dragonoid creation in Magnolia. The Edolas arc proved pivotal for her origins. After Magnolia's disappearance due to the Anima, Carla revealed her and Happy's Edolas heritage to Natsu, Wendy, and Happy. She guided them through the Anima to Edolas, adhering to strict conditions about not discussing the mission. In Edolas, she learned the truth: her "mission" was a ruse by Queen Shagotte to save the Exceed children. Carla passionately defended Extalia against destruction, rallying others with the declaration that collective effort could save their homeland. She played a crucial role in the battle against the Edolas Royal Army and King Faust. Following the resolution in Edolas, the Exceed relocated to Earth-land. After Fairy Tail's initial disbandment following the Tartaros arc, Carla and Wendy joined Lamia Scale. Subsequently, after the conflict with Orochi's Fin, Carla left Lamia Scale to aid Natsu in resurrecting Fairy Tail. She continued participating in missions with Team Natsu, including facing threats like the White Mage and the Dragon Gods during the 100 Years Quest, where she encountered and overcame transformations like the Yokai state.
