Description
Princess Valkyrie fled her royal duties on Valhalla in the Dolphin constellation at age eighteen, escaping an arranged marriage. Her spaceship accidentally crash-landed into Earth's Tokino Bathhouse, mortally wounding its operator, Kazuto Tokino. To save him, Valkyrie transferred half her soul, an act that condensed her physical form into that of an eight-year-old child while maintaining her royal status.
This transformation created two distinct aspects. Her constant child form exhibits youthful behavior: enthusiasm for "Little Bunny Piyoko" and manga collections, speaking in a childish manner, using nicknames (e.g., "Hydie" for Hydra), and displaying jealousy, impulsiveness, and a strong attachment to Kazuto, whom she calls "Kazie". Her temporary adult form, accessed by kissing Kazuto when their emotions align, displays maturity, wisdom, and regal dignity. An early incident briefly gave her adult body a childlike mind.
Her journey involves romantic development with Kazuto, evolving from gratitude to deep mutual love. Their relationship faces complications from her fluctuating forms and external pressures, including official recognition as his fiancée by Princess Mehm after Kazuto proved his devotion. Repeated wedding attempts are interrupted, often by her involuntary reversion to child form during emotional moments.
A pivotal development occurred during a space pirate attack on their wedding chapel. Valkyrie shielded the bathhouse from a falling ceremonial mural, an act that unexpectedly split her into two separate, coexisting entities: one permanently in child form and the other permanently in adult form, though their wedding remained postponed.
Her abilities include flight, energy manipulation, and defensive shields in her adult form. She gains the powerful sword-shaped Key of Time artifact at the start of the second season, wielding it for various effects. Initially, she could use it briefly in her child form, but later usage became exclusive to her adult form. After the split, her powers remained divided between the two separate beings.
Key relationships define her character: her catgirl maid Sanada exhibits unwavering loyalty and adoration towards both forms. Princess Hydra, initially a rival sent to retrieve her, evolved into a friend despite frequent annoyance at the child Valkyrie's antics; the adult Valkyrie later apologized for these behaviors. Her friendship with Kazuto's childhood friend Akina Nanamura persists despite underlying romantic tensions regarding Kazuto. Among fellow Valhallan princesses, she shares a close bond with the admiring Laine and maintains a friendly connection with the eccentric Chorus.
