Himawari Nohara, born September 27, 1996, is the infant daughter of the Nohara family. Her name, meaning "sunflower," was chosen by her older brother from viewer submissions during an in-series draw; sunflowers often decorate her clothing and toys. She possesses light skin and short curly orange hair, typically seen in a yellow sleeper with a white bib. Unable to speak verbally, her thoughts appear as subtitles.
She displays a mischievous and active nature, crawling at high speeds and sparking household chaos that often leads to her brother being blamed, her infant innocence protecting her from direct scolding. She exhibits a strong attraction to handsome young men, blushing and glancing sideways when complimented, a trait persisting into adulthood. Her interests include a palpable attraction to glittering objects, jewelry, and brand-name goods, including an ability to discern genuine jewels from fakes. She dislikes onions and refuses them, sharing this aversion with her brother.
Relationships significantly shape her character. She imitates her brother's behavior and frequently treats the family dog as a toy, though they share a bond where he can calm her using masks of handsome actors. Masao Sato sees her as a little sister, caring for her and imagining her calling him "onii-chan." In contrast, Toru Kazama harbors romantic hopes for her future, dreaming of marriage, while she views him as a brother figure.
Special manga chapters show her at age five as intensely playful and chaotic, creating widespread trouble challenging even an older Shin-chan. Future portrayals depict her adulthood. In "Super-Dimension! The Storm Called My Bride," around age 20, she works as a police officer or secret agent, aiding arrests and retaining her blush response to compliments, though noted for rare family visits. Her adult look features longer hair, a yellow biker jacket, black pants, green gloves and boots, and a white scarf. Alternate futures, like in Movie 20, present her as princess of the Sunflower People, wearing an elaborate gown variant of her infant sleeper adorned with purple pearls, a longer collar, and a tiara.
