Description
Shunsuke Imaizumi, a third-year Sohoku High student and bicycle racing club member, channels a reserved intensity shaped by a childhood of isolation. His passion for cycling ignited during a visit to Toji Kanzaki’s bike shop, offering escape from disinterest in other pursuits. Early victories, including a solo breakaway in his debut race, mirrored his preference for solitude, yet masked a drive to outpace his past loneliness.

Logical and methodical, Shunsuke fixates on surpassing rival Akira Midousuji, haunted by a prior defeat that fuels his ambition to become the world’s fastest cyclist. Initially aloof, he dismisses inexperienced peers like Sakamichi Onoda, but gradual camaraderie with Onoda and teammate Shoukichi Naruko erodes his detachment. A pivotal race against Onoda—where Shunsuke’s self-imposed 15-minute handicap collides with Onoda’s relentless climbing—forces him to acknowledge the strength of teamwork.

An analytical all-rounder, Shunsuke balances sprinting and climbing prowess with meticulous strategies, calculating gradients and energy expenditure. Training at a grueling 1,000km camp, riding without gear shifters, hones his bike control, culminating in a decisive Inter High victory over Akira. As Sohoku’s new ace, he embraces leadership, mentoring juniors and fostering unity.

Raised in affluence, with a butler and spacious home, Shunsuke collects Usagi-brand T-shirts and European cycling caps. He finds solace in classical Japanese literature and movie soundtracks, yet reveals vulnerability through awkward fan interactions and a tense but occasionally laughter-filled bond with his sister during comedy shows.

His evolution from solitary racer to collaborative leader unfolds post-Inter High: he aids Onoda in articulating cycling triumphs to Onoda’s mother, engages in team-building, and sustains a playful rivalry with Naruko through lighthearted dares. Shared trials and growth deepen his connection to Onoda, marking Shunsuke’s integration into a collective pursuit of excellence.
