Description
Hajime Aoyagi attends Sohoku High School as a bicycle racing club member. Initially sporting short brown hair covering one eye, his appearance shifts in his third year to shoulder-length dark blond locks. Eye colors vary across media—gold, blue, or black in manga; black then brown in anime. He favors clothing adorned with exclamation marks.
A typically silent and self-described gloomy individual, Aoyagi speaks sparingly but harbors deep thoughts and fierce loyalty toward teammates and friends. His pivotal bond with Junta Teshima began on their first day at Sohoku when Teshima observed him cycling up the entrance slope. Becoming classmates and cycling partners, they evolved into a strategic duo: Teshima crafts tactics while Aoyagi executes them physically, symbolized by their gloves—Teshima’s "certain" and Aoyagi’s "victory." He also connects closely with mentor Jin Tadokoro, sprinter Shoukichi Naruko, and third-year Kimitaka Koga, growing socially open enough to call the team a "six-man team."
Initially an average cyclist, Aoyagi intensified training after failing to qualify for the Inter High twice. As captain and vice-captain, he and Teshima developed formidable leg strength, winning sprint races against first-years through raw power. His skills surged in third year:
- Adopting Tadokoro’s sprinting style, he created the "Supersonic Oxygen Human Bullet Aoyagi Train," inhaling massive air volumes for temporary speed boosts to aid teammates—ineffective for final sprints.
- He invented "Bambi Style," concentrating energy in his thighs for explosive cadence and cornering acceleration, limited to 150 meters.
- He devised "Fake Launch," accelerating behind Teshima to mislead opponents into expecting a sprint finish, masking Teshima’s climbing weaknesses.
His endurance peaked at the Inter High: he retrieved teammate Issa Kaburagi after a setback on day two and carried Teshima back to the peloton on day three despite an injured knee, mentoring Kaburagi via written messages on a roll.
Earlier feats include winning five Chiba Prefecture pre-series races and placing third in the Bay Coast Criterium as a first-year, plus fifth in the 42nd Inter High qualifiers as a second-year. He enjoys art galleries, plum rice balls, cabbage, DS games, and drawing scenery—excelling in illustration with a perfect middle school art score. Humanities are his academic strength. A notable vulnerability is his susceptibility to overheating during races, complicating pace control.
