Azami is a black obi tsugumomo crafted by Kazuya Kagami in his youth. She emerged when Kazuya, aiming to exceed his mother's power, spent months channeling mysterious energy and curses into a blank obi without focused intent. This act birthed her, and Kazuya assigned her the temporary name Azami.

She manifests as two halves: Western-clothed Azami and Japanese-clothed Azami. Both share identical features—long straight purple hair, a rounded face, shadows beneath her eyes, and an unvaryingly menacing expression framed by a dark aura. Their attire distinguishes them: one wears a black kimono with an obi and carries a spherical object swathed in obi layers, while the other dons a standard school uniform. Though physically split, they operate as one consciousness, sharing thoughts and communicating across any distance.

Silent, gloomy, and radiating palpable menace, Azami unnerves those around her. She rarely interacts socially, limits expressions, and speaks only to issue commands. While aligned with Mayoiga village, her support is transactional, lacking ideological commitment. She reacts violently to betrayal, assaulting former allies who disappoint her. Beneath this exterior lies an intense, enduring devotion to her creator, Kazuya Kagami. Her Japanese-clothed half covertly watches over him, attacking anyone who torments him. She flies into a murderous rage if Mayoiga threatens Kazuya, explicitly warning them against harming him.

Azami's past is defined by upheaval. After creation, Kazuya secretly trained with her using amasogi programmed to kill him. During one session, an amasogi from Kanaka Kagami's childhood uniform possessed Azami on contact, fracturing her into two halves. The possessed half, driven by the amasogi's "kill Kazuya" order, assaulted him until Kanaka and Kiriha intervened. Subdued but opportunistic, Azami possessed Kanaka, turning her against Kazuya. After Kiriha injured Kanaka, Azami used her obi to seal the wound, saving Kanaka's life. She then moved the unconscious Kanaka outside Kamioka, encasing her in a protective obi cocoon. Weakened and stranded beyond Kamioka's barrier, Azami battled and was captured by Mayoiga scouts. Following years of recuperation in Mayoiga, she agreed to help them secure a Stone Shard in exchange for their vow not to harm Kazuya, becoming the supervisor of their operations.

In battle, Azami manipulates her obi layers like Kiriha, shaping them into adaptable tools and weapons. She exceeds Kiriha's strength by mastering all eight obi layers, earning fear even among Mayoiga's tsukumogami. United attacks from both halves can overpower minor deities. Curses and mysterious power forged her existence, tethering her intrinsically to curse energy. Emotional turmoil—especially rage—leaks curses from her body, heightening the risk of spawning amasogi.
