Shion, originally an ogre tribe member, survives an attack that destroys her village. Alongside five survivors, including Prince Benimaru and Princess Shuna, she initially mistakes Rimuru for an enemy and attacks. Following the resolution of this misunderstanding, she and her kin pledge loyalty to Rimuru, receiving names that evolve them into Kijin. This evolution transitions her from a wandering warrior to Rimuru's self-appointed secretary and bodyguard within the Jura Tempest Federation.
Her appearance transforms significantly. As an ogre, she has light purple skin, a prominent central horn, a sharp tooth, and wild purple hair in a ponytail. Evolving into a Kijin refines her horn, removes the purple skin tint, lengthens her hair, and grants her a more human-like beauty. She stands 170 centimeters tall with a noticeably voluptuous figure, typically wearing a purple business suit with a light green shirt, the jacket left unbuttoned. After her resurrection and Rimuru's ascension to Demon Lord, she evolves further into a Wicked Oni, retaining her Kijin appearance but gaining enhanced abilities and the title "The Immortal."
Shion's personality blends fierce loyalty with notable clumsiness and impulsiveness. She declares herself Rimuru's "first secretary" but lacks secretarial skills, mangling names in notes and relying on Shuna for administrative duties. Her devotion borders on reverential love, manifesting as intense jealousy towards anyone showing interest in Rimuru, including rivals Shuna and Diablo. She is emotionally volatile, quick to anger, and prone to solving problems through excessive violence. Yet, she occasionally displays unexpected wisdom, like taming Dagruel's sons instead of killing them.
A recurring trait is her disastrous cooking ability, originally transforming food into toxic, sentient substances. Rimuru later mitigates this by gifting her a regular knife, improving texture but not the inherent danger of her dishes. Her competitive nature extends to household tasks, often causing property damage during cleaning.
Combat is central to her role in Tempest's defense. She leads her personal army and serves among the Twelve Guardian Lords and Rimuru's "Big Four." Killed protecting Tempest during the Falmuth invasion, Rimuru resurrects her using souls harvested from Falmuth's army, evolving her into a Wicked Oni. This rebirth deepens her psychic link to Rimuru, granting fragments of his analytical abilities and heightened intuition, enabling her to deduce complex truths from limited information. Her post-resurrection powers include Pain Nullification, Status Change Nullification, and resistance to physical, spiritual, and holy attacks.
Interpersonally, she shares a bond with Gobzo, a goblin revived by Rimuru who harbors a shy crush on her. She mentors Dagruel's sons after sparing them. Her relationship with Rimuru remains the core of her character, driving her actions and emotional development.
