Description
Suzuran, once a Buddhist monk, faces arrest after performing a forbidden Christian funeral—an act of religious defiance that lands him in prison before his induction into a band of substitute Shinsengumi warriors. Adopting the identity of the deceased captain Hajime Saito, he wields a hybrid weapon: a staff fused with the blade of Saito’s katana, Kijinmaru Kinishige, crackling with electrified enhancements. This armament mirrors his own duality, merging monastic discipline with audacious ingenuity.

Within the substitute Shinsengumi, Suzuran flaunts a flirtatious charm, relentlessly teasing Akira, a cross-dressing comrade who dismisses his advances. His playful rapport with teammates like Sōgen, the group’s medic, contrasts sharply with his tactical precision during operations, revealing a man as adept at lighthearted banter as he is at calculated strikes.

Rooted in a history of challenging dogma, Suzuran’s monastic past and subsequent arrest hint at a rebellious spirit. Tasked with safeguarding Kyoto from imperialist threats, he navigates his duties with a maverick’s flexibility—swerving between loyalty to the cause and impulsive pursuits, whether chasing adversaries or Akira’s elusive attention.
