Gema is a floating yellow spherical entity with thin arms and circular hands. His facial structure appears inverted to human perception but is normal for his physiology. As the designated guardian of Di Gi Charat (Dejiko), he exhibits a serious and diligent personality. He frequently attempts to discipline or guide her, often facing retaliation or bullying in return. His speech consistently ends with the verbal tic "gema". Gema originated alongside Dejiko in the "Gema Gema" four-panel comic strips published in *From Gamers* magazine starting in August 1998. He served as her initial sidekick before her rise in popularity repositioned their dynamic. He functions as the often-ignored voice of reason within Dejiko’s group, forming part of a comedic trio alongside her and Puchiko. He routinely carries his primary weapon, a blowgun loaded with tranquilizer darts. In the *Summer Special 2000* (also identified as part of the seasonal specials framework), Gema interacts with Pyocola Analogue III (Piyoko) and her Black Gema Gema Gang during their initial arrival on Earth. During this storyline, he admonishes Piyoko for her plans to kidnap Dejiko, citing their illegality and immorality. He participates in several collaborative activities between Dejiko’s group and the Black Gema Gema Gang across subsequent specials. These include joint picnics during the *Ohanami Special* and theatrical performances in the *Tsuyu Special*. Within the *Natsuyasumi Special* (marketed as the *Summer Vacation Special*), Gema joins Dejiko, Puchiko, Rabi-en-Rose, Piyoko, and the Black Gema Gema Gang members in forming a musical band and performing together. This exemplifies instances where the rival groups engage in cooperative activities. His role remains consistent as Dejiko’s caretaker and a stabilizing presence within the group dynamic throughout these narratives.
