He consistently attempts to guide or discipline Dejiko, though his efforts typically manifest as ineffective nagging lectures. This dynamic regularly results in him becoming the target of Dejiko's eye beam attacks. Despite this contentious relationship, Gema demonstrates genuine concern for Dejiko and Puchiko's well-being and maintains steadfast loyalty. His speech includes the verbal tic of ending sentences with "gema" or "gema gema". Gema carries a blowgun with tranquilizer darts. Originating from the planet Di Gi Charat, Gema later resided on Earth. His family includes deceased parents Conrad and Johanne, a living stepmother Teresa, a deceased stepfather Robert, two older sisters, two younger sisters, and four younger stepsiblings. Extended family comprises deceased aunt Cony, uncle Tatako, and cousins Laurent, Laureline, Lauren, Laura, Lala, Lili, Elly, and Lorelai. He is married to Janie and Jeanne, with whom he has two sons, Takuya and Kaguya. Across series installments, Gema's role and characteristics remain consistent. In *Summer Special 2000*, he temporarily enlarges after being kicked into water by Dejiko, an event not altering his core traits. He appears maintaining his guardian duties in the *Christmas Special*, *Ohanami Special*, *Natsuyasumi Special*, and *Tsuyu Special*, though is explicitly excluded from *Winter Garden*. The alternate continuity *Di Gi Charat Nyo!* continues his role as Dejiko's caretaker and recipient of similar mistreatment.
