Description
Gema, formally named Geman Gemaningballs, functions as guardian to Di Gi Charat (Dejiko) and Petit Charat (Puchiko). He hails from the planet Di Gi Charat, appearing as a floating yellow sphere possessing thin arms, circular hands, and an upside-down face he considers standard. His family comprises deceased parents Conrad and Johanne, stepmother Teresa, deceased stepfather Robert, two older sisters, two younger sisters, four younger stepsiblings, plus various aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Within the prequel *Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat*, set two years prior to the original series, Gema joins Dejiko and Puchiko on their mission to spread happiness across their homeworld. His relationship with Dejiko proves notably more affable here; he rarely suffers abuse from her, with his main point of friction being her annoyance at his talkative nature rather than deliberate hostility. Should Dejiko object to his presence during outings, he typically complies after minimal protest. This version depicts him as a cooperative, if sometimes loud, participant in group activities. He adopts a domino mask while disguised as a phantom thief during a heist. Romantic subplots emerge, including a crush on the idol Airi developed during a bodyguarding assignment in Episode 31. Though traditionally the primary comedic victim, *Panyo Panyo* shifts this role more to Piyoko and the Deji-Devil, though Gema still endures minor mishaps like being spat on by urchins in Episode 17.

Gema's character varies across other media. In the original *Di Gi Charat* series and spin-offs such as *Di Gi Charat Nyo!*, he frequently faces Dejiko's "Eye Beam" attacks when scolding her for lazy or unruly conduct, reflecting his role as a diligent yet ineffective caretaker. He employs a blowgun with tranquilizer darts of minimal impact. His speech consistently ends with the verbal tic "-gema" or "-gema gema". Within the visual novel *Di Gi Charat Fantasy*, Gema accompanies Dejiko after she loses her memory through a dimensional vortex, upholding his guardian duties in a fantasy setting. He does not appear in *Winter Garden*, a later storyline set in an alternate future.
