Description
Nodoka Toyohama, Mai Sakurajima's younger half-sister sharing the same father but different mothers, was born on March 14. She stands 158 cm tall with wavy blond hair (potentially dyed, as it was light brown in childhood) typically tied in a ponytail and blue eyes (chocolate-brown as a child). Originally residing in Yokohama, she later moved in with Mai following family conflicts.
Nodoka developed a profound inferiority complex toward Mai due to maternal pressure. After Mai's mother enrolled her in an acting troupe out of spite toward their shared father, Nodoka's mother retaliated by forcing Nodoka into a troupe and constantly comparing her achievements to Mai's. This bred resentment in Nodoka, who felt her hard work was perpetually eclipsed by Mai's seemingly effortless success. Despite this, Nodoka idolized Mai as a child, mimicking her speech and mannerisms and preserving letters expressing deep admiration, before their relationship deteriorated.
A pivotal event triggered by Nodoka's unresolved resentment and pressure caused Nodoka and Mai to involuntarily swap bodies via Adolescence Syndrome. Nodoka fled to Mai's apartment after a fight with her mother. Struggling to impersonate Mai during the swap, Nodoka collapsed under the pressure at a photoshoot. Witnessing her mother praise Mai (in Nodoka's body) during a Sweet Bullet performance drove Nodoka to attempt self-harm. Sakuta intervened, revealing Mai's cherished collection of Nodoka's childhood letters. This confrontation led Nodoka to express her anguish directly to Mai, who acknowledged their shared familial strife and advised Nodoka to pursue her own happiness. Their reconciliation reversed the body swap.
Following another disagreement with her mother, Nodoka moved in with Mai permanently. She thanked Sakuta for his support, recognizing his importance to Mai. Nodoka's personality evolved from bratty and immature to more grounded, though she retained competitive and tsundere traits. Academically competent, she assisted Kaede Azusagawa in studying for high school entrance exams and introduced her to Uzuki Hirokawa, an online-school student and fellow Sweet Bullet member, to alleviate Kaede's anxieties about alternative education.
Nodoka continued her idol career with Sweet Bullet, occasionally performing lead vocals. She befriended Kaede, who became a fan of her music, and offered support to Sakuta during Kaede's emotional struggles, reflecting her growing role as a supportive figure within their circle.
