Description
Chris is a disabled orphan living in the cyberized orphanage facility where Major Motoko Kusanagi originated. Cyberized neonatally alongside other children to survive, she suffers a severe physical condition preventing full cyberization despite micromachine use. This condition, potentially akin to Cyberbrain Sclerosis, renders her physically frail and permanently bedridden.

Her parents were researchers combating forced obsolescence in androids and cybernetic bodies, a critical issue where outdated technology traps users in deteriorating shells. Like Kusanagi, Chris's neonatal cyberization created lifelong dependency on external entities for maintenance and upgrades. Chris possesses the unique ability to remotely control multiple artificial bodies simultaneously. She uses this ability to manipulate events, primarily through the character Kurutsu, the head of Organization 501. Kurutsu, perceived as a distinct individual throughout the preceding *Arise* storyline, is later revealed to be one of Chris's remote-controlled proxies.

Chris is the creator and controller of the "Fire Starter" virus, a sophisticated cyber weapon that hacks cyberbrains to implant false memories and manipulate behavior. She orchestrates the assassination of the Japanese Prime Minister using this virus during a Section 9-infiltrated hostage crisis. Her broader actions, inciting violence and framing criminal and political factions, form part of a complex scheme driven by her philosophical goal.

Her ultimate objective stems from her condition and experiences witnessing the suffering caused by cybernetic obsolescence, particularly high suicide rates among those trapped in unmaintainable bodies. She advocates abandoning the physical form entirely, seeking to transcend humanity by uploading consciousnesses—including her own and other obsolete individuals—into the global network, conceptualized as ascending to a "third world" or digital afterlife.

To achieve this ascension, she utilizes a massive pit beneath the orphanage. Her final act involves submerging herself within this pit to merge with the network. During this confrontation, Kusanagi interacts with her directly. Despite Chris's responsibility for numerous deaths and widespread cyber manipulation, Kusanagi displays understanding towards her motivations. Chris's fate after submerging remains unresolved.

Physically, Chris appears as a pale, bedridden young girl, her fragile form contrasting sharply with the powerful synthetic bodies she remotely pilots and underscoring her motivation to escape biological constraints.
