Description
Penne, also known as Battalia in some localizations, is a skilled Zoid pilot and mechanic whose primary partner is a Scorpear-type Zoid named Needle. Renowned for its high intelligence and utility, Needle possesses enhanced sensory abilities, allowing it to see in darkness and detect faint atmospheric vibrations—traits that make it exceptionally effective for nighttime operations and reconnaissance. The Zoid is often utilized for practical tasks, including lifting its pilot or forming makeshift bridges.

Penne’s past is marked by tragedy: bandits killed her parents in her childhood, forcing her to flee to an orphanage. She brought Needle with her and gradually assumed an older sister role for the other children. To support the orphanage financially, she became a bounty hunter, eventually succeeding so thoroughly that she captured the very bandits responsible for her family’s demise.

Her pursuit of income led her to the Dark Metal Empire, where the high-ranking official Numb-Lock of the Four Dark Warriors made her an offer: complete 100 bounty assignments in exchange for a fortune that would secure the orphanage’s future. Confronted by the Empire’s power and her own desire to protect the orphans, Penne accepted.

She first encountered Arashi after saving him from a giant boulder in the forest. Her initial demeanor was teasing and mocking, often calling him a little boy or dull. Despite this exterior, she revealed a strong moral compass when they worked together to protect a cave of Midnight Herbs, also called Diamond Flowers, from bandits. These plants held healing properties vital to the local fauna, and both agreed to leave them undisturbed to preserve ecological balance.

A central conflict emerged when Penne’s 100th bounty target was assigned as Arashi and his Wild Liger. Having already formed a bond with him, she nearly carried out the betrayal to claim Numb-Lock’s reward. Instead, she double-crossed the Dark Metal Empire, siding with Arashi and rejecting the bounty. This act of loyalty demonstrated her choice of friendship over financial gain. Following her betrayal, Needle bestowed its Zoid Key upon her, cementing their partnership.

After this event, Penne became the first official member of Arashi’s team, which she renamed from "Team Stretchy" to "Team Freedom." She also designed and painted the team’s logo onto Arashi’s Wild Liger. While part of the group, Penne often preferred to meander on separate adventures, maintaining her independent spirit.

In terms of skills, Penne excels in Zoid customization, maintenance, and repairs, with additional talent in painting and aesthetic redesign. She was initially unaware of the advanced "Wild Blast" combat technique. Her combat style relies on strategy and stealth-based surprise attacks rather than brute force, often using her Scorpear to stun opponents—making her highly effective alongside Zoids that provide direct firepower.

A functional mask worn on her head serves as both a gas mask and sensor array, assisting her in varied environments. Her motivation for treasure hunting is romantic, driven more by the journey than the acquisition of wealth, though she trades found items to fund her adventures.
