Description
Leon, alternatively known as Lei En or "Leon of the Seven Stars," is a central figure. He began as a former apprentice at the Yang Spring Restaurant under Chou Yu. Displaying exceptional cooking talent and a gentle nature from youth, he particularly struggled with the ethical conflict of killing animals for ingredients, developing a ritual of placing red paper talismans on deceased creatures as a sign of respect and prayer. Seeking refinement, he left the restaurant to travel across China, eventually hitting a plateau in his culinary growth. Frustration drove him to join the Dark Cooking Society, where harsh training enhanced his knife skills but corrupted his ideals.
A pivotal moment involved commissioning the legendary Seven-Star Knives from master forger Luo Xie (also Lache or Rache). When Luo Xie mentioned ambitions to create even better utensils, Leon—consumed by possessiveness and the Society's influence—impulsively stabbed him, causing the forger to fall from a cliff. This act traumatized Leon, marking the start of profound guilt and his eventual defection from the Society. He then became known as "Leon of the Seven Stars," wielding the six primary knives and a seventh forbidden blade forged from glacier ice. This final knife, the "Heavenly North Star Wolf," inflicts severe frostbite on the user but allows extreme precision in cutting without damaging ingredients.
Leon initially reenters the narrative as an antagonist, demanding the Ever-Soul Knife at Yang Spring Restaurant while bearing the Dark Cooking Society's tattoo. His duel against Liu Mao Xing ends in a stalemate; during this confrontation, he reveals his disillusionment with the Society and his past actions. This solidifies his redemption arc: he crosses out his Society tattoo and allies with Mao to prevent the Legendary Cooking Utensils from falling into the Society's hands.
His cooking style emphasizes extreme precision and speed, utilizing techniques like the "Raging Bull Azure Dragon Cut" for bloodless butchering of livestock and the "Seven-Star Instant Cut" for rapid ingredient preparation. Though stoic and reserved, he gradually opens up after joining Mao's group, showing loyalty and a willingness to confront his past. Key relationships include his mentorship under Chou Yu, his rivalry-turned-partnership with Mao, and his dynamic with allies like Steel Staff Xie Lu (Shell), whom he aids in retrieving the Legendary Utensils.
Leon possesses long lavender hair tied in braids and wears a sea-blue coat lined with white fur, with a muscular physique developed during harsh training. Despite being 15 at his introduction, his experiences lend him an older appearance. His character development centers on an ongoing quest for atonement, particularly through protecting the Legendary Utensils and opposing the Society he once served.
