Description
Layla serves as a major in an alien military force embroiled in intergalactic conflict. Her critical mission is locating and recruiting Oji Tanaka, formerly Gabriel, the lead guitarist of the disbanded heavy metal band Black Heaven. This recruitment is essential because Oji's guitar playing generates unique energy capable of powering an ultimate weapon vital to her faction's war effort.

To achieve her objective, Layla assumes a human identity, infiltrating Oji's workplace as a new coworker. This disguise facilitates her initial approach and ongoing interactions. She presents Oji with opportunities to play his guitar within a specialized environment linked to her alien command center, often disguised as a model home acting as a portal. Though dedicated to her military duty, Layla develops a genuine appreciation for Oji's musical talent and its combat effectiveness. Her efforts are complicated by three subordinates—Kotoko, Eriko, and Rinko—who assist her but whose misinterpretations of human customs often create unintended complications.

Layla operates under Colonel Fomalhaut, who initially expresses skepticism about relying on Oji's music as a weapon. This creates command tension, forcing Layla to advocate persistently for Oji's indispensable role against her superior's preference for conventional strength. Her frequent clandestine meetings with Oji inadvertently fuel suspicions of an extramarital affair from his wife, Yoshiko, though Layla's focus remains strictly military.

As the conflict escalates, the enemy faction acquires the remains of Black Heaven's former keyboardist, Joseph Watanabe, transforming him into the eight-armed cyborg musician "Mechanabe" to counter Oji. This development forces Layla to reunite Black Heaven to amplify the weapon's power against this enhanced threat. She actively participates in the final confrontation, operating weapon systems synchronized with the band's performance.

Throughout her mission, Layla maintains a professional, often stoic demeanor consistent with her military background. However, exposure to human emotions and music's cultural significance gradually influences her perspective. She discerns that the true power source behind the weapon is not merely technical skill, but the emotional resonance and "groove" inherent in Oji's playing. Physically, Layla possesses blonde hair, blue eyes, and a humanoid appearance, typically depicted in her alien military uniform or human office attire.
