Description
Alice Zuberg, a central figure in the Alicization narrative, originated from Rulid Village as the daughter of Chief Gasupht Zuberg and childhood friend to Eugeo and Kirito. Her early life included training as a Sacred Arts apprentice under Sister Azalia, regularly bringing lunch to Eugeo and Kirito while they worked at the Gigas Cedar. A pivotal incident occurred during an excursion to the Mountain Range at the Edge: attempting to aid a dying knight, Alice stumbled into the Dark Territory. This accidental violation of the Taboo Index led to her arrest by Integrity Knight Deusolbert Synthesis Seven and transportation to the Central Cathedral for interrogation and execution.

After two years of study at the Cathedral, Supreme Priest Quinella deemed Alice suitable for transformation into an Integrity Knight. She underwent the Synthesis Ritual, a process forcibly removing her Core Protection over three days and suppressing her memories to ensure loyalty, recreating her as Alice Synthesis Thirty, the 30th Integrity Knight. As a knight, she wore ornate golden plate armor with a blue cape and wielded the Fragrant Olive Sword, capable of disassembling into petal-like projectiles. Her personality shifted to embody fierce protectiveness of Underworld, pride, and reluctance to accept help except from deeply trusted individuals like Kirito or Commander Bercouli.

Years later, Alice arrested Kirito and Eugeo for breaking the Taboo Index at the Sword Mastery Academy, failing to recognize them due to her memory suppression. She imprisoned them in the Central Cathedral and assigned her disciple, Eldrie Synthesis Thirty-One, to guard the premises. A confrontation erupted on the Cloudtop Garden's 80th floor beneath an olive tree, where she battled Kirito and Eugeo. During the fight, Kirito and Eugeo revealed Quinella's corruption, triggering Alice's dormant memories and prompting her rebellion against the Administrator. She aided in defeating Quinella and Chudelkin, though the battle cost Eugeo his life and left Kirito comatose.

In the conflict's aftermath, Alice retreated to Rulid Village with Kirito to safeguard him, reconnecting with her younger sister Selka. A goblin attack on the village reignited her resolve to protect Underworld, leading her to join the Human Guardian Army at the Great Eastern Gate to defend against the Dark Territory's invasion. During the War of Underworld, she fought alongside allies including Asuna, Sinon, and Integrity Knights like Bercouli. Captured by the Dark God Vecta (Gabriel Miller) and taken to the World's End Altar, she was later rescued.

Following the war, Alice's Fluctlight was extracted from Underworld and installed into a highly advanced android body in the real world, created to resemble her original appearance and retaining her signature headband. She enrolled in the SAO Survivor School, adapting to human society, with moments of cultural adjustment like wearing casual attire such as a plain blue T-shirt drawing commentary from Kirito. The project that created her world, Project Alicization, derived its name from the acronym A.L.I.C.E. (Artificial Labile Intelligence Cybernated Existence), cementing her symbolic role as the embodiment of Rath's pursuit of true artificial intelligence.
