Tomoe is a Warrior Priestess (Musha-Miko) from Hinomoto, an eastern island nation inspired by feudal Japan. She belongs to an ancient shrine order dedicated to protecting Hinomoto, serving in its elite warrior branch at the Masakado Shrine. This order prioritizes loyalty and decorum, focusing missions on repelling Continental invaders and punishing domestic criminals. Their famed sword techniques cut through anything, augmented by mystical ofuda talismans unleashing explosive energy fields. Hinomoto descended into turmoil when corrupt Imperial Court administrators plotted to overthrow the child Mikado. Most of Tomoe's fellow priestesses perished in attacks orchestrated by the Kouma Ninja under the schemers' orders. Guided by a prophetic dream revelation experienced by a high priest, Tomoe undertook a journey across the western seas to enter the Continent's Queen's Blade tournament. Her mission was to gain the power necessary to rescue the Mikado, restore order to Hinomoto, and avenge her fallen sisters. Physically, Tomoe is a fit young woman with long black hair, typically styled in a ponytail secured near the ends for combat and later tied with a red bow. She possesses purple eyes, which later turn white due to blindness. Her attire consists of traditional miko garb: a red hakama and white kosode, often with a headband. Later appearances show her wearing an additional robe and carrying a second sword. Her personality is calm, modest, gentle, and amiable. She maintains a serious, sincere demeanor, deeply committed to her mission, yet shows kindness to allies like Leina and Risty. Her chaste disposition makes her easily scandalized by revealing outfits. Her primary weapon is the sacred katana Kushinawa, emitting a purple aura. In dire situations, it taps into her innate energy, significantly enhancing its power. Her combat style blends precise sword mastery with spiritual techniques. Key abilities include the "Helmet Cleaver" (a powerful overhead downward strike), the "Warrior-priestess kick" (an upward kick launching opponents), and deploying explosive ofuda talismans against demons. She can concentrate multiple talismans in one area to channel destructive force. After the main Queen's Blade tournament, Tomoe returned to Hinomoto. Having awakened ultimate techniques during the competition, she was acknowledged as the supreme warrior of the Masakado Shrine and bestowed the title "Sword-Saint Priestess" by the High Priest. However, a "Blindness Curse" cast by the Swamp Witch during her Continental travels took her sight. Despite this, she retained her inner resolve and gentle smile, adapting to fight using heightened other senses. Her combat prowess continued to evolve, leading to a belief that the return of her sight would signify mastery where "the world would submit to Hinomoto's sword skills." She reflected that blindness allowed her to "see what [she] couldn’t understand when [her] eyes were open." Tomoe reappeared in the "Queen's Blade: Unlimited" storyline, her hair in a ponytail with a red ribbon, continuing her dedication to defending Hinomoto. She reaffirmed her role as the Warrior Priestess, declaring her intent to protect her homeland. Her participation across these events spread fear and respect for Hinomoto's sword skills throughout the Continent. Her name honors the legendary female samurai Tomoe Gozen, reinforcing her embodiment of traditional warrior virtues—strength, loyalty, and grace—amidst the chaos of the Queen's Blade tournament and its aftermath. Her journey centers on her duty to Hinomoto and her growth as a warrior through profound trials like blindness.
