Description
Marie Mire, occasionally referred to as Maria in international versions, emerges as a French-Japanese protagonist from the 1967 anime adaptation. Born in Japan to archaeologist Professor Mire and a French mother who died before the series’ events, her life shifts dramatically during a shipwreck orchestrated by Dr. Nazo’s robotic forces. Rescued by Takeru Yamatone, son of Professor Yamatone, she joins their team to oppose Nazo’s global threats.

Central to her narrative is reviving the ancient hero Ogon Bat. Distraught during a critical moment in the anime, her tears spilling onto his crypt reawaken the Atlantean warrior, mirroring the 1966 live-action film where Emily Beard, her counterpart, revives him with water. Marie later wields a bat-shaped pin tied to Ogon Bat’s powers, enabling her to summon him.

Visually, Marie sports light skin, pupil-less blue eyes, and long, darkish ginger hair. Her wardrobe—a pink dress with a white collar, red shoes, and white socks—reflects her youthful vigor. Kind-hearted, courageous, and sharp-witted, she bonds with animals and engages actively in missions, showcasing resilience and self-sacrifice against adversaries.

Though later spin-offs and OVAs lack direct references to her evolution, her core role persists across the 1967 anime and adaptations. Absent from the 1972 comedy *The Golden Bat Is Here!*, which explores kamishibai history, Marie remains a narrative linchpin—igniting Ogon Bat’s resurgence and anchoring the team’s moral resolve within the franchise’s heroic framework.
