Description
Kagura Soma carries the Chinese Zodiac's Boar spirit curse, transforming into a brown boar when embraced by someone of the opposite sex or under extreme stress. Petite and fair-skinned at about 160.5 cm tall, she has large round brown eyes and straight brown hair, typically worn down or in braids with ribbons. She favors feminine, cute dresses and skirts, partly due to her baby face and a belief mature styles would age her appearance for Kyo Sohma. An orange cat-shaped backpack is her near-constant trademark accessory.

Her personality blends contrasting traits. She usually appears sweet, polite, friendly, and nurturing, forming close "big sister"-like bonds with figures like Ritsu Sohma and Tohru Honda. Yet concerning Kyo Sohma, whom she claims as her fiancé, she exhibits extreme emotional volatility, manifesting in violent, physically aggressive outbursts driven by impulsive rage and immaturity rather than malice. This duality mirrors the boar's single-minded charge. She lacks personal boundaries, clinging intensely to Kyo while also showing affection for others like Yuki Sohma, whom she nicknames "Yun-chan."

Kagura's troubled childhood involved resenting her curse and blaming herself for her parents' arguments. At seven, meeting five-year-old Kyo, the ostracized Cat spirit, she recognized his greater suffering. Befriending him initially out of pity to alleviate her self-loathing, she once forced a childhood "engagement" by threatening him with a knife. A pivotal moment occurred when she snatched Kyo's enchanted bracelet, triggering his monstrous true form; horrified, she fled, deepening his isolation. To suppress guilt, she convinced herself she loved Kyo, believing accepting his form would erase her past and make her "beautiful," evolving into an obsessive, performative love focused on her redemption.

Her story arc begins with aggressively pursuing Kyo while displaying hostility toward Tohru as a romantic rival, marked by violent confrontations with Kyo, declarations of their unique bond (since hugs don't trigger her curse), and attempts to prove devotion through actions like cooking. Her friendship with Tohru later deepens over shared empathy for Kyo. Challenged by Rin Sohma about her motives, Kagura confronts the pity underlying her "love." This culminates in a raw confession to Kyo, admitting her selfishness and apologizing for using him to ease her guilt. Genuinely accepting his rejection, she supports his relationship with Tohru, even slapping Tohru for hesitation and urging honesty with Kyo.

Post-rejection, Kagura shows significant maturity: her violence diminishes, replaced by self-awareness and accountability. She lives with her parents—who accept her dual nature—and her distant relative Isuzu (Rin), their relationship growing closer only after Rin temporarily moves out. Kagura is among the few female zodiac members never directly harmed by family head Akito Sohma. After the curse breaks, she marries an unnamed man, has a son, and embraces a peaceful family life. Her development concludes contentedly watching Kyo and Tohru's granddaughter play, symbolizing her resolution and happiness for them.
