Description
Fujimaki is a powerful and enigmatic figure operating within the clandestine networks of underground Megalo Boxing, where he functions as a major organizer of gambling and a ruthless debt collector. His background is not explored in detail, but his position at the top of this criminal enterprise is established from the very beginning, showing him as a man who extends loans to those struggling with gambling addiction, deliberately trapping them in cycles of debt to exploit for his own profit. He exerts control over fighters and coaches like Gansaku Nanbu, using their financial desperation as leverage to orchestrate fixed matches for his own financial gain.

Fujimaki is a physically imposing figure, towering over most other characters at nearly six feet and five inches tall with a broad, muscular build that alone commands a sense of respect and fear. His square jaw, cleft chin, and visible scars add to his intimidating presence. Despite this menacing physique, his personality is defined by a sophisticated and dangerously controlled demeanor. He rarely, if ever, loses his temper, instead using a calm, level tone as a tool for psychological intimidation. His mannerisms are elegant and controlled, often inviting others into situations of his choosing under a thin veil of generosity, which only amplifies his authority. Appropriately for a man who runs his criminal operations from the back of a restaurant, he frequently employs culinary metaphors and analogies in his speech, using them as part of his method of psychological warfare and intimidation.

Fujimaki's primary motivation is the accumulation of power and profit, and he is willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve these ends. He holds a cynical and deeply pessimistic worldview, believing that people are incapable of genuine change. He expresses this philosophy through metaphors, famously stating that "a stray dog remains a stray dog, and a scorpion remains a scorpion," a belief he uses to justify his relentless exploitation of others. In his eyes, men like Nanbu and the protagonist Joe are inherent frauds who can never truly escape their predetermined nature.

In the story, Fujimaki serves as a primary antagonistic force and a constant, looming threat over Team Nowhere. He enters the narrative by offering a dangerous deal: he will forge a citizen's ID for the fighter Junk Dog under the name "Gearless Joe" and clear their debts, but only if Joe can win the prestigious Megalonia tournament. However, this deal conceals a deeper scheme where Fujimaki actually plans for Joe to throw the final match, allowing Fujimaki to swindle a fortune from gamblers betting against the favored opponent. When this scheme fails due to outside intervention, Fujimaki demands a brutal and permanent form of compensation: the remaining eye of the trainer, Nanbu, a sacrifice that Nanbu bravely carries out himself.

Fujimaki's most significant relationship is with Nanbu, whom he holds in utter contempt as a "scorpion" and a fraud, yet uses as a tool for his own ends. He is the puppet master holding the strings to Nanbu's past, using the trainer's debts to control both him and Joe. His interactions are purely transactional, based on threat and coercion rather than any form of respect. His relationship with Joe is similarly adversarial; he sees Joe not as a fighter with a dream but as an asset whose value is determined by the bets he can generate.

Over the course of the series, Fujimaki shows little to no personal development or change in his core beliefs or methods. He remains a consistently ruthless and calculating figure of control until the very end. He appears in the sequel series Nomad: Megalobox 2, where his visual presentation is updated slightly, as he is shown wearing glasses and an orange suit, but he continues to embody the same role as a powerful, unyielding antagonist from the underworld. In one instance, he even allows Joe to fight in a fixed match to retrieve a restaurant deed for a friend, demonstrating his continued operation outside of conventional morality. Fujimaki possesses no notable fighting abilities as he is never seen in the ring; his primary weapons are his wealth, his network of influence, his psychological cunning, and his willingness to enact extreme violence through proxies or as a consequence for failure. His notable ability lies in psychological warfare and manipulation, maintaining control over dangerous individuals not through force, but through sheer force of will and calculated intimidation.
