Description
Nagayoshi Onagawa is a third-year student at Sōshūkan High School (Ao High School) in Miyagi Prefecture. His family runs a fish market, and he has lived in Miyagi since childhood. He co-founded the school's boys' rhythmic gymnastics team with childhood friends Masamune Shichigahama and Keisuke Tsukidate, inspired by witnessing Shichigahama perform a backflip. Their collective efforts secured enough members for official team competition.

Nagayoshi has brown eyes and blonde hair featuring pink streaks, typically styled in a half-ponytail or side-ponytail with uneven bangs, a change from his previous short, slicked-back brown hair. Outside practice, he often wears a partially zipped blue and white tracksuit. His gymnastics attire includes a pink t-shirt with dark blue or green shorts over leggings. His casual style leans toward street fashion.

He serves as the team's primary mood-maker, exhibiting a bubbly, energetic demeanor and a penchant for teasing teammates. Nagayoshi frequently invents playful nicknames for others, especially first-years Shotaro Futaba and Ryoya Misato, though these are typically rejected. He openly expresses interest in female idols and cute girls, notably supporting the idol group Tan Tan Girls and engaging in friendly rivalries over idol preferences with members of rival teams. Beneath his lighthearted exterior, he occasionally grapples with internal insecurities about his role and abilities.

Nagayoshi's development centers on his initial self-proclaimed status as the team's ace, challenged when nationally competitive gymnast Ryoya Misato joins. While outwardly accepting Misato's superior skills and dubbing him "Ace," Nagayoshi privately struggles with feelings of inadequacy and displacement. These insecurities culminate in him feigning an injury to skip practice. His resolve strengthens after witnessing the perseverance of idol Ma-chan and receiving encouragement from Misato, who acknowledges Nagayoshi's unique contributions. This helps Nagayoshi reaffirm his commitment and embrace his distinct strengths over titles.

As a gymnast, Nagayoshi excels in flexibility and tumbling, skills acknowledged by teammates and former Olympian-level coach Shusaku Shida. His technical proficiency makes him valuable in team routines, particularly balance-oriented elements. His focus shifts from aspiring to be the undisputed ace toward valuing teamwork and recognizing his role in fostering team cohesion and spirit.

He maintains close relationships with founding members Shichigahama and Tsukidate, stemming from their shared history since elementary school. Nagayoshi respects Misato's abilities and gradually develops a supportive dynamic with him, moving past initial envy. His interactions extend to rival teams, including light-hearted clashes with Shiro High's Hideo Ominato over idol preferences.
