Description
Kenta, eldest son of scientist Malcolm Lee and his late wife, was born around the mid-to-late 1980s. He grows up in Tokyo with his younger siblings, Reika and Hiro. Like his father, Kenta shows early technical aptitude and gearhead tendencies, though their relationship frays due to Malcolm's workaholic neglect. This tension surfaces when Kenta builds Hiro a nightlight by dismantling appliances, earning fleeting paternal praise that quickly turns to criticism over his methods.
On August 29, 1997, Kenta accidentally startles a robotic cat named Koneko. He and his siblings pursue it into an abandoned underground area where Kenta discovers deactivated 1NNO robots. Reactivating one reveals his fascination with machinery but inadvertently causes a confrontation with a Terminator that knocks him unconscious.
Recovering at a police station, Kenta witnesses a Terminator assault that exposes their housekeeper Misaki's cybernetic arm, revealing her as a machine. This fuels his deepening distrust of artificial beings. When the AI Kokoro launches and hijacks robots globally, Kenta accuses Misaki of being a sleeper agent and urges her deactivation. Temporarily convinced by Hiro to accept her aid, Kenta's mistrust reignites after seeing Misaki violently eliminate human attackers to protect Hiro. He points a gun at her, relenting only when Hiro intervenes.
Kenta separates from the group, heading to the "House of the Wildcat" ride in Cat Town expecting to find Reika. Inside, he briefly glimpses a distorted reflection hinting at a possible future self before a Terminator captures him using vocal mimicry. Imprisoned and used as leverage to force Malcolm into deactivating Kokoro, Kenta suffers psychological trauma when Malcolm initially refuses, perceiving it as paternal abandonment. The Terminator later reveals it was sent by a future Kenta who allied with Skynet to destroy Kokoro. Faced with activating an EMP to disable Kokoro per the Terminator's instructions, Kenta ultimately spares the AI after Kokoro personally appeals to him, citing Malcolm's sacrifice and pledging to protect humanity from Skynet.
Kenta survives alongside his siblings, Eiko, and Misaki, hiding underground. Emotionally shaken by the Terminator's revelations about his potential future and burdened by his role in humanity's uncertain fate, he nevertheless accepts his responsibility as the eldest sibling. The meaning of his name – "healthy" and "a child of great wisdom" – contrasts with his internal conflicts over technology, humanity's value, and his familial legacy.
