Description
Io is a male lop rabbit Jewelpet with light brown fur, long drooping brown ears, and distinctive han blue and heather purple jewel eyes made of iolite. He wears a purple ribbon bowtie. His personality is gentle, leisurely, and loyal, with a tendency to be easily attracted to female characters and occasionally display childish behavior. He frequently ends sentences with "Dachi," except in the first *Jewelpet* anime.
In *Jewelpet* (2009), Io is one of the targeted "Jewel Eight." Brainwashed by Dian in episode 38, his corrupted refreshment magic, normally providing energy and mental clarity, instead induces exhaustion in humans during Christmas. He is later reclaimed via a Jewel Game.
Appearing sporadically in *Jewelpet Twinkle☆* as part of a trio with Chite and Nephrite, his role is minor. During *Jewelpet Sunshine*, he attends the Rose Class under Jill Konia. In "Party Debut, Yay!", his attempt to court Peridot ends in blunt rejection and comedic despair.
*Jewelpet Kira☆Deco!* features Io prominently as a Decoranain member under Coal, serving as Opal's loyal assistant in collecting Deco Stones. Unaware of Coal's "Coarumi" disguise, he develops romantic feelings for Coarumi while harboring affection for Opal, creating a love triangle. This conflict drives his character arc, including a feud with Opal in episode 17 over his divided attention, though his loyalty to her remains consistent.
In *Jewelpet Happiness*, Io appears as a minor character. Episode 31 focuses on him being mistaken for a dog; he trains to behave like one and eventually forms a "Magic Gem" partnership with Nobara Kitajima.
During *Lady Jewelpet*, Io runs a tea shop. In episode 13, he advises Momona on fragrances. He reappears in episode 21, clumsily attempting to assist with the Jewel Festival by serving juice. Later, he involves himself in a subplot to help Levin propose to Charon, resulting in comedic mishaps where he and Ruby are electrocuted.
His magical abilities center on refreshment: rejuvenating minds and bodies, alleviating fatigue, and promoting healthy dietary habits. He can sometimes fly by flapping his ears. When corrupted in the first series, his visual design changes to include angry eyebrows, fanged teeth, a grass skirt, a red-and-white striped collar, and a staff topped with an iolite gem.
