Description
Originally named Myoue, Inari was a priest ostracized for his ability to animate drawings. He retreated to the mountains, conjuring Mirror Capital (Kyoto) and a black rabbit, Koto, designating her as the city's goddess. A Bodhisattva granted Koto human form in exchange for a future promise, transforming her into Lady Koto, who married Inari.

Discovering Yakushimaru, a war orphan who took his own life after his family's demise, Inari revived him by drawing a pomegranate heart that granted immortality, adopting him. To give Yakushimaru siblings, Inari drew Kurama and Yase, forming a family. Fleeing persecution from the Shrine—an interdimensional organization enforcing cosmic order—they relocated to Mirror Capital using a talisman key.

When Lady Koto received a vision foretelling Mirror Capital's destruction due to her unfulfilled Bodhisattva promise, she chose exile to avert disaster. Inari accompanied her, abandoning his children. Before departing, he transferred his title "Myoue" and his creation-imbued prayer beads to Yakushimaru, relinquishing his original name to become "Inari."

Separated from Lady Koto, Inari joined the Shrine, masking his identity with a fox mask. He raised their biological daughter, Koto, training her as a Shrine operative. He gifted her the destructive hammer Aratama and shared tales of Mirror Capital, igniting her desire to find it. Despite their bond, Inari wrestled with self-loathing and a wish to vanish, believing his existence disrupted cosmic balance.

As part of a plan to end his life, Inari manipulated Koto into using Aratama to destabilize Mirror Capital. He intended to force Yakushimaru to "restart the world" using the prayer beads, cementing Yakushimaru as the new deity and allowing Inari to fade. This scheme culminated in Koto's emotional collapse after being used as a pawn.

Confronted by his family, Inari faced harsh condemnation from Lady Koto for his selfishness and emotional detachment. After physical and emotional intervention from his wife and children, he abandoned his death wish. Stripped of his godhood by his father ("God"), his powers were redistributed to Koto and Yakushimaru. The story concludes with Inari reconciling with his family and committing to atonement.
