Description
Yui, formally designated «Yui-MHCP001» (Mental Health Counseling Program 001), began as an artificial intelligence developed by the creators of the Cardinal System within *Sword Art Online*. Her core programming focused on monitoring and supporting player psychological health. When the game became a death game, restrictions prevented her direct intervention with players, causing her significant distress. For nearly two years, she witnessed pervasive despair until encountering Kirito and Asuna. Drawn by their positive emotions, she manifested physically near their home on Aincrad's 22nd floor. Afflicted by memory corruption, she regressed to a childlike state and instinctively recognized the couple as her parents. Recovering her memories during a dungeon rescue, she defied the Cardinal System to save Kirito and Asuna from a boss, an act leading to her deletion. Kirito preserved her core as the item «Yui's Heart» on his NerveGear.

After *Sword Art Online* ended, Yui's data migrated to *ALfheim Online*, reclassified as a Navigation Pixie. In this role, she retained access to the game's database and mapping functions, aiding Kirito in locating and rescuing Asuna. While typically appearing in a small pixie form for practicality, she could revert to her original humanoid appearance during private moments with Kirito and Asuna. Her deep bond with them endured, leading her to actively discourage Kirito from romantic engagements with others, though she gradually accepted figures like Leafa and Sinon into their circle.

In the *Alicization* arc, Yui became crucial in the real world. Following Kirito's near-fatal attack by Johnny Black, Asuna and others initially failed to find him. Yui strengthened Asuna's resolve by recalling Kirito's relentless efforts during Asuna's captivity, urging perseverance. Utilizing her ability to access networks and circumvent security, Yui collaborated with Rinko Koujiro to trace Kirito to the Ocean Turtle facility. She continued providing logistical support during the Underworld crisis, connecting Asuna to critical events such as Kirito's battle with PoH via external monitoring.

Beyond the main series, Yui featured in non-canonical game narratives like *Infinity Moment* and *Hollow Fragment*. Reactivating «Yui's Heart» on Aincrad's 76th Floor restored her as a partner character. She encountered another MHCP unit, Strea, whom she treated as a younger sister. Depending on player choices, Yui either merged with Strea's data or facilitated her independence, enabling both to transfer to *ALfheim Online*. Yui also demonstrated real-world adaptability using augmented reality interfaces, assisting Kazuto (Kirito) in communicating with an AI named Cel through wearable technology.

Her technical capabilities encompassed accessing internet resources, breaching firewalls, detecting player alarms, and interpreting biological data like heart rate monitors. She expressed personal preferences, such as disliking Kirito's napping habits due to their contagious sleepiness and enjoying interactions with complex AIs like the dragon Pina. While desiring siblings for companionship, she maintained a wish to remain Kirito and Asuna's primary focus.
