Description
Eve is a central figure in the backstory of Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, known as one of the first EL-Divers, a type of digital lifeform born from the data of the Gunpla Battle Nexus Online (GBN) system. She is a gentle and kind-hearted individual who possesses a deep, empathetic love for the world of GBN and everything within it, including the feelings of both people and Gunpla. Despite her caring nature, she is secretly burdened by her true identity as an EL-Diver, a fact she keeps hidden from most people she meets.
Eve's primary motivation is the preservation of GBN and the protection of those she cares about, particularly her younger sister, Sarah, another EL-Diver. She is acutely aware of the flaws in the system that cause bugs to appear, which manifest as corrupted data that threaten the stability of the game. To combat this, Eve silently works to absorb these bugs into her own data to contain them, even though doing so causes her great pain and leads to her own deterioration. Her ultimate goal is to secure a future for Sarah and ensure the GBN she loves remains safe.
Eve's role in the story is largely that of a tragic figure whose past actions define the emotional core of the protagonist, Hiroto Kuga. Two years before the main events of Re:RISE, Eve met Hiroto on one of GBN's battlefields. The two developed a strong friendship, with Eve guiding him and helping him grow as a builder and fighter. She is the one who inspired Hiroto's philosophy that Gunpla have hearts and taught him how to listen to their feelings. Their shared dream was to travel together to the far reaches of GBN, a desire that would later inspire the naming of Hiroto's Planetary Armor System. However, as the bugs in GBN grew more severe following a great miracle within the game, Eve reached her limit. Knowing she was on the verge of becoming a massive, world-ending bug herself, she made the desperate request for Hiroto, the person dearest to her, to erase her from the system to stop the outbreak and save Sarah.
Eve shares her most significant relationship with Hiroto Kuga. The time he spent with her became his most precious memory, and her disappearance left him with deep emotional scars and a fear of getting close to others. Her final words to him, asking him to continue being someone who fights and cares for others, haunt him throughout the series and serve as the moral compass he struggles to follow. Another key relationship is with Sarah, whom Eve considers her younger sister. She works tirelessly in secret to protect Sarah, absorbing the bugs that emanate from her and ultimately sacrificing her own existence to give Sarah a chance to live freely. Eve's sacrifice directly enables the survival of Sarah and, by extension, the safety of GBN.
While Eve does not develop as a character in real-time within the present narrative, her history reveals a profound tragic arc. She begins as a curious and joyful digital being exploring GBN with her new friend Hiroto. As the threat of bugs grows, she transitions into a silent, suffering protector, bearing the burden of the system's instability alone. Her development culminates in a final act of agency and love: choosing to sacrifice herself and tasking the person she trusts most to carry out the deed.
In terms of abilities, as an EL-Diver, Eve possesses the innate power to understand the feelings of Gunpla, similar to her sister Sarah. More uniquely, she can absorb the system bugs that plague GBN, pulling the corrupt data into herself to cleanse the game environment. This ability, however, is a double-edged sword, as absorbing too many bugs corrupts her own data, causes her intense suffering, and ultimately leads to her own destruction. It is later hinted that fragments of her data may have persisted, potentially influencing the creation of another EL-Diver named May, as evidenced by a unique earring she wore being passed on.
